I am a 78 year old Type 2 now living in Spain.... .ct...my occupation for the last 15 years before I retired was a Coach Driver
at Gatwick Airport ferrying passengers and crews to their respective aircraft.....as the airport is actually on private land they
have their own Specialists who carry out the medical checks annually mainly on the Pilots and Flight engineers and because I was
driving only Airside I was subject to the same procedure.....Being diabetic was no problem as long as I passed the Sight and
Hearing tests......Insurance was fortunately covered by my employers....I would hate to think what that Premium would be.
The bonus for me was because my own car insurance company gave me a discount because of my job
If you are residing in Spain as soon as you reach the age of 70 you must by law give up your UK driving licence and apply
for a Spanish one....you have to see a Doctor at the Driving Centre and have a full medical ......mentioning Diabetes is not a
problem ....but you need your own doctor to provide you with a letter proving its under control.
I am insured with Linea Direct (Direct Line) and my insurance premium at present is €322 for third party fire and theft plus
all glass cover ,windscreen /windows Etc.......the car is a 2 Litre VW passat 2001.....its expensive but its nothing to do with
being Diabetic......there are no comparison sites here either so like most of us its grin and bear it.even with full "No Claims"
Regards to all.

My experience with car insurance is pretty straightforward.

I use the comparison sites. I rarely renew with an insurer, unless there is a compelling reason to do so. For example, I have renewed a couple of times with my home insurer, firstly, because they handled a significant claim a few years ago extremely well. I had expected sucking of teeth a the very least, but they just settled the claim, including redecorating. They also, importantly for me, have a very decent way of viewing properties left vacant for a few months a year, even in winter.

For car insurance, I usually find the comparison sites show premiums with significantly reduced by new customer discounts. On renewal these discounts fall away (because the person is no longer a new customer), hence the often sizeable increase. Some insurers with price match, if challenged, whilst others just seem to shrug their shoulders and accept we'll vote with out feet.

Overall, I would suggest that as well as premiums generally going up, some of the increases many people see is because they are no longer a new customer. It seems car insurance is one of those things where loyalty doesn't pay too often.

Does anyone know where does car insurance without discriminating.
As newly being diagnosed t1/t2 I have lost my bus license and been given a 3year restricted car license.
My car insurance is up soon and the quotes are ridiculous because of the restriction...anyone help..Please.
I have usually gone with one of the main insurers at present I use lv but ìn the past have used co operative but have had problems with some of the web sites
So always mention it when arranging my insurance and most realise I will have a restricted duration licence

You say you have a 3yr restricted licence what does that Mean? I thought I had a restricted licence as I have to apply every 3 yrs but found that a restricted licence was where you're only able to drive a particular vehicle and under certain conditions. On my licence I have AM, A, B1, B, BE, fklnpq. I thought I had the restricted licence and my insurance was sky high until I queried it with the insurance broker who she'd light on the fact I had a regular licence that hadto be renewed due to my diabetes which can change over time along with my sight

Good luck! My husband, a type 2, lost his license to drive tractor trailer for the post office here in NYS... Personally, diabetics are healthier than the average person because they always have to watch what they eat. Insurance companies are the biggest money makers . I'm originally from Connecticut...the insurance mecca. I worked for insurance companies...ponzi schemes.

Interesting comparisons to your insurance rates. While I am located in Canada (Ontario) insurance rates vary depending on coverage also. Do you have Public Liability only (our PLPD and your TPFT), or include Collision (your Comprehensive)? Collision/Comprehensive always adds a varying cost increase to your coverage. In Canada, the term "Comprehensive" covers things like your windshield/windscreen for damage due to pitting or cracks.

My health details (I am Type 2) do not affect my insurance rate unless my doctor declares that I am a high risk with any medical condition then it becomes a matter of determining the insurance risk that the insurer must take (same as being licensed to drive).

My 2 vehicle, 2 drivers (myself and spouse, both over 65) - Dodge Grand Caravan and Ford Sport Trac - insurance here in Ontario Canada is $2023/yr (CDN dollars or about £1149/yr or monthly $169/£96). We are many years driving, accident-free and no traffic offenses - so the best available rates for us. Ontario has the highest rates in Canada. Another consideration for insurance coverage and cost is the age of the vehicle. For example, my Ford Sport Trac cannot have Collision/Comprehensive because of its age (2005) but is covered for PLPD/TPFT. The Dodge Grand Caravan is only 2 yrs old and is fully covered.

There are too many variables to consider for insurance coverage so asking someone else about how much they pay can only be used as general sense of the different insurance companies. Shop around, get quotes, and be honest and upfront about yourself and your vehicle(s). Leaving out a detail or 2 because you know it will increase your rate and you want a lower rate can come back to haunt you if you ever need to submit a claim - you could be denied compensation. While discrimination is not allowed, a "sin of omission" on your part could bite you in the rear later on.

Shopping for a better rate saved us close to $1000/yr (about £560) and we switched to one of the largest insurers. The new rate is the $2023/yr CDN (or £1149/yr).

LOL, to pay only £250 per year (about $440 CDN) would be a dream come true :)
