At my clinic you're weighed, have your bm taken and periodically do the HBa1c which tells them what your control has been like for the past 6 to 8 weeks.
Once that's done I have a chat with the specialist nurses where u can voice any queries you have.
Sometimes that's it but you may go and have a chat with the consultant.
You don't need to worry as they are generally cheerful and even if you think a query you have seems inane they will have been asked a hundred times before

Rude people! Not being able to do the things I want to do.
Have a look in"general links for diabetes" in the diabetes discussion section. There is a good link that tells you all about Hba1c.Basically this test tells you how much sugar(as a percentage)you have had in your blood over the last 90 days.

Knowledge is the key to control

Hi

When I have blood taken at the doctors they sometimes have a problem finding a vein - better treatment at the hospital. The hospital nurse said to tell them to use a find needle and syringe rather than use whatever it is they use at surgeries.

Best wishes Val

My clinic use the blood 'left over' from the bm.
They have their own machine which takes less than 3 minutes to get a result.
I appreciate how lucky I am that I don't have to have venous blood taken.
Every clinic is different but they all want the same thing - getting our diabetes to a manageable and maintainable level

I had my HBa1C test on Wednesday as well as a flu jab. I'm not the greatest fan of blood tests - necessary evil and all that :(
