Hey everyone, i had my 28week growth scan today and baby is measuring in 95th percentile weighing approx 2lb6oz

The dr said he is slightly smaller than average and i will have another scan in two weeks to keep an eye on my placenta. Silly question but what is a centile?

Is anyone in similair boat? My levels have been within target mostly but i do struggle with fasting levels at times

I'm confused @sugar-rush123 If he's smaller than average how can he be in the 95th centile, or is that just for one measurement?

I have no idea what any of that meas. It was many years ago when I had my daughter. However, I was told by the consultant that my baby was too small. She weighed in at 8lbs 2oz, healthy and bouncing.

I dont know on the chart theyve plotted baby just below the midline and it says on the notes PI= 95th centile at 28weeks = 1.34

I havent got a clue what that means!

Ok. That sounds like a specific measurement that was at the 95th centile.

PI is to do with the umbilical artery so it's not measuring baby. It's measuring that artery and how it's functioning.

I think if it was me, I'd speak to my midwife or obstetrician and ask for more information.

Hello :) a percentile is an indicatation of the predicted percentage of babies that would have a lower level at the current number of weeks.

I.e 95th percentile means 95% of values at 28 weeks would measure lower than your value.

As mentioned above the 95th percentile is not referring to your babies size but your PI value (although sorry I'm not sure what that means).

I would speak to your consultant if you're worried but these results can vary and that is why they have booked you in for a repeat in a couple of weeks.

I also had my 28 week scan this week and was told my baby was measuring big which scared me as I'd worked so hard to get my hba1c at 38. However once I looked into it with the measurements taken I realised she was only just bigger than average, not abnormally big...and what baby is average?! They all vary in size and shapes so try not to get too hung up on these measurements and see how the develop over the next 12 weeks :) .

@Dionne89 The PI measurement is to do with the function of the artery and is slightly different from the size percentiles in the information it provides. It can sometimes be connected to smaller babies, which could be why her specialist mentioned this.

As you say, it's best for the OP to get a proper explanatiin from her midwife or consultant.

Congratulations on your pregnancy :) Your HbA1c is very good :)
