Just thought I would let anyone interested know that I am taking a break from the site for a while. Recently, I tried to persuade someone who was quitting due to being upset/disappointed by responses he felt (rightly or wrongly) were critical of him when he tried to give help to a Type 1 and others disagreed with his advice. Some suggested he take time out instead of leaving...So that is the advice I am following now, having been disappointed by some of the apparent division between those of different types and in particular a degree of hostility to those posting what they genuinely think is helpful information regarding low carb dieting (generally people with a lot of experience). Admittedly, it is a small number...and obviously people have differing opinions and experiences...but I didn't join the site to get into petty arguments, I joined to gain information and I stayed to keep learning and to help others where possible as well as to feel involved...part of something very positive. I did gain a great deal, "met" some very nice people, and hope I did help a few along the way. I have been staying away from responding to Type 1's posting (particularly newbies) as some (again only a few) clearly think Type 2s are a whole different species. That just doesn't feel right to me (despite the obvious differences)...as we are all surely here on the site to help each other...if not...why are we here ? Anyway, I am not posting to enter into argument or to annoy anyone...just saying I am a bit disappointed at the moment and shall be putting things on hold...unless I wake up in whole more positive mood and realise I am just being grumpy or sensitive or some mish-mash of both. So...might be back...but wanted to thank those who did help me over the couple of years I have been here (too many to name) and to wish those I have interacted with well. Good luck. Paul.

Poor grammar, bullying and drunks.
There's an old saying 'A change is as good as a rest'. Come back to us when all the hullabaloo has died down and people are feeling a little less aggreived. I am glad you have not made the decision to close your accountand turn your back on the community permanently and will await your return. Stay well.

I have been through the whole gammet of all stages of D and I hopefully didn’t offend you !! The same diet has worked through all stages. Low carb for me. Almost more important as an insulin user to avoid hypos.

Please don’t leave. You are awesome. We all just post out experiences and what works for one doesn’t work for another but ive had many ah hah moments that have been gems.

Take a break if you need it but KNOW YOU ARE A VALUED MEMEBER.

I think this forum is just the way it should be, a place with open check and balances of opinions so that we do not become too dogmatic ourselves.

Differing voices and opinions help us to review and revalidate our own views and experiences. Some of which may not be applicable to others no matter how well intention we may be.

The recent hypo that @Robbieswan went thru is a good case in point. Too much carbs reduction too soon without the awareness of insulin dosage and response is dangerous. There is really no hurry for newbies to rush towards zero carbs. A step wise reduction is a good step forward to allow adaptation and long term sustainability to get maximal benefits for all.

Do return as there are very few forums like this...many millions T2D have yet to experience this.

Go away and write a book - you know you want to. Take the 'un' from the beginning of your profile occupation. Become a man of letters (anagram of your forum name: epistler). Then drop us a line from your yacht. Best of luck and thanks for your help.

As was other advice given to the same new member you mention - namely to view the buffet food he asking about as poison, and to skip meals to get his bs down. Both comments were highly irresponsible and inappropriate, while the first comment is untrue. I share @pleinster's current concerns about this forum

Dear @poshtotty what I actually wrote.. in response to your post was...

"Personally I look on it as that kind of food is "poison" not only to me but also to the people consuming it. With that approach I don't feel deprived just healthier."

I think that the "personally" and the inverted comma's around poison give it away...

You yourself said that you throw the carbs away...

Regards
Mark

I am sorry to read that you are taking a break. The forum will be poorer without your input. You have helped me with your support and without posters like yourself I wouldn't be in the position that I am today. You have my heartfelt thanks.

Good luck to you @pleinster. I go through periods of disengagement and then usually just post my fbgs, to maintain motivation.
I think that we can take criticism and disagreement too personally sometimes, but I suppose that's a human trait. I was sorry to see a well intentioned forum member leave because of criticism, whether it was deserved or not. I shall miss your useful posts too.
But take a break, and come back if and when you feel like it.

I am also sorry you feel the need for a break. You have very specialist knowledge on all matters relating to kidneys and steroids that the majority of us do not have, and for this reason alone you are invaluable to this forum. There are many other reasons, too.
Have a break, but please come back. You will be missed.

I earnestly hope I am not one of the members that has upset you. If I am, I would like to know so I can put matters right.!

Och Paul!! This forum is a reflection of "real life" there are people you just warm to, people who are caring and humble and then there are people who we just do better to avoid. Emotions run high on here just as in our day to day life, I get scunnered on here too sometimes and just do as you are planning to do. Come back soon pal @pleinster
