Went for a review due to 4wks high sugar between 19 n 26 with fastings over 20, having significantly risen over last 3 months, asked for the c peptide was told they dont do it, but then nurse said they dont know if im type 1 or 2....confused surely the c peptide is what would tell them...now added gliclazide 80mg twice daily onto my aloglliptin n to go back in 2 wks so we will see

No wonder you are confused!

I am sure your nurse must be wrong about the C-Peptide test. It is a simple and cheap test, and one done to help decide if someone is T1 or T2. You would also need a GAD test. Because of your high levels and all the meds you are already on, I think you should pursue this further, and quickly. You can't continue like this.

I agree with @Bluetit1802 . You need to pursue this. You could easily be a LADA who's had a 3-year honeymoon. My HbA1cs were fine for 4 years until my insulin production shut down. Then readings were regularly in the 20s. My local Diabetes Clinic put me straight on insulin. Can you ask to be referred ? It sounds like you need someone more knowledgeable than your DSN.

I think she prob meant they dont do the test for type 2's but then contradicted by saying dont know if im type 1 or 2, i just feel like not being listened to, the gliclazide might make a difference but if no improvement in the 2 wks before i go back surely they will have to do the c peptide then

All you can do is give it a try, but I still think you need to pursue this with your levels, and maybe a referral to a specialist diabetes clinic is the answer.

Do that by all means, but PLEASE test more frequently than that. You also need some post meal tests (2 hours after first bite) and a bedtime test. Two tests a day tell neither you nor your nurse anything of value. Post meal ones are very important.

Hahahaha But by how much is the question! Still do them and keep your own records separate from the ones you give her, but if she still won't help you produce the whole lot, especially if they are high. She needs the whole story not just fragments.

Besides, Gliclazide works by making the pancreas produce extra insulin. Insulin gets produced when we eat. To know if the Glic is working properly you need to know post meal levels.
