Grrr:mad:

Yesterday, despite the agreement of my GP and diabetic specialist nurse I as refused a prescription for a Freestyle Libre.

NICE have approved it, but my CCG has not, so my surgery can't prescribe it.:banghead:

I meet criteria for it as I am on other medications that affect my haemoglobin making my hbA1c somewhat erratic, making my need for close monitoring of my BG essential. :nurse:

Anyone else in my CCG also faced this ?
Any advice? I can't afford to self fund.

Not been refused yet but starting the process of going on one, hopefully trialling it in the new year - not sure how it's going to go but I'm under a hospital in Derbyshire so we shall see if I get it

I'm just going through the same process to try and get funding from the funding people, however; I'm not holding out much hope as the diabetic nurse and GP both said that they're been uber restrictive due to the cost outlay. - But I'd appeal and see what happens - you can but try

It is very sad that it's come to this. There just isn't the money in the system, even though money would be saved in the long run. Whatever Boris, Gove and Farage promised, it isn't going to happen.

I didn't expect to get a prescription from my GP, but I checked anyway and she confirmed that I wouldn't meet the criteria being laid down by the Chiltern CCG. So, no surprise there then. I was also asking about the two lumps on the back of my head, one small one the size of a coat button and one much bigger, a couple of inches across. I was told that I would not be referred to an NHS consultant because there wasn't any urgency.

So, I dug into my piggy bank, rather than claim on my insurance (don't want the premiums to go up) and had a private consultation and obviously the doctor I saw also works within the NHS. His remarks were quite interesting because he said that it was a good job I'd gone to see him, lumps have a habit of suddenly getting a lot worse. The small one will be removed on the 22nd December (will now make a claim as it costs £800), he will get a biopsy done and he will biopsy the larger one at the same time.

I wish I knew the answer, higher taxes might help, perhaps a long hard look at what the UK government spend our tax pounds on might help.

@Aginoth have you tried getting in touch with the Bristol Diabetes Support Network? They have a group on Facebook. I would expect the will have information on the Bristol CCG decision with libre and whether they have any criteria for funding, or it just isn't being funded at all.
