Has diabetes affected your sex life ? I just wanted a straw poll to see how much this affects men who have diabetes. Feel free to vote anonymously.

Yes. In the past. Now been on Testosterone Replacement Therapy for a year. Back in business. My Consultant said it is common in male diabetics.

Can we keep the thread serious ? This is not a funny thread...it's a real issue that can stop males seeking help.

Hi @Bigrobxxx,
Have you seen your G.P.?

Plenty of males, and females too, have sexual problems and they are not confined to diabetics.

Diet drinks - the artificial sweeteners taste vile.
Having to forswear foods I have loved all my life.
Trying to find low carb meals when eating out.
I had a blood test for testosterone because I had lost my sex drive.

I was told the results were 'normal' - but I am now wondering, having read other posts in various places, if this was 'normal for a male in his prime' or just 'normal for a 60+ T2 diabetic'.

I understand that sex drive can taper off as you get older, so I am not sure how common this is in non-diabetics.

Anybody else out there on Forxiga? Clearly says in the directions not to take sildenafil when taking Forxiga. Caught between a rock and a hard place. Anybody else had the same problem with erectile disfunction and unavailability of Viagra and other tablets that might help? Don't want to come of the Forxiga which has helped in losing 2 stone.

Hi All I am new to the forum but thought it would be a good place to discuss my issues, I am a 45 yo Male and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2007, since then I have had major issues with getting my blood sugars under control even though I do everything the professionals tell me, I am due to see my consultant soon and am having a blood test to see if have slow onset type 1 or if I am actually type 2. I have been out of work since March 2016 due to poor health, which was caused mainly by suffering with severe diabetic neuropathy, I Have been suffering with ED since June of last year and have tried Cialis and Sildenafil and both have not really worked for me, I have just been prescribed Tadalafil which is another type of Cialis but as yet have not tried them as I am really struggling mentally with my ED and worry that if I try them and they don't work then I'm back to square one, I have been married for 24 years and this had put a real strain on our relationship mostly due to my thoughts and struggling with the feeling of letting my wife down when ever we engage in any sexual activity and me not being able to perform. My wife has been incredibly understanding throughout the whole thing but this doesn't change my fears and feelings of inadequacy. I just wondered if anyone had any helpful advice or info that could help

Hi ... could really do with some advice .. I have been type 1 for nearly 20 years now. Have been pretty well controlled and never suffered any serious complications. For the last few years however I have been suffering with Erectile Dysfunction. I haven't spoken to any doctors as I usually research online. I have been able to manage the problem by taking DHEA supplements. But it's now getting worse .. are there any specialists that people can recommend I could see ?

Not uncommon for males to suffer with some form of ED. It usually relates to age however in diabetes this can result in an earlier onsett of symptoms. The best advice I can offer is to see your GP and tell them your concerns. Also tell your partner this is really important, they need to understand what you are going through. Depending on other health related issues, Viagra or Cialis can be an easy fix. I found that to be the case, that and an understanding wife.

Since being on Insulin it seems to have cured my male issue. Since I had an amazing thirst pre-diagnosis, I was urinating about 15 times a day. One time for every pint of water I was drinking. I had no clue this was diabetes doing this to me. My issue wasn't really lack of sexual ability as I could always muster an erection, but the size of the erection bothered me. It was more a boyish effort rather than a man effort. What I also had was instances of me wetting myself as my manhood wasn't big enough to clear my zip on my trousers. At the time of my initial hyper attack, I told my wife I needed the toilet and she honestly couldn't find my manhood it was so small. Since being on Insulin and my BG levels have returned to somewhere that resembles normal, not only has my manhood returned to it's normal size so I don't wet myself, but my sexual prowess has returned. Not to say it was ever really big to start with, but I am more happier in myself that I can perform like I used to. I am happy to address this topic with the seriousness it deserves as it did affect me greatly.
