I'm trying to find out what percentage of T1 diabetics in the UK are using an insulin pump. I'd also like to find out what percentage of insulin pump users (t1) there are in other parts of the world. Does anyone know where I can find that info. Something quite recent as I don't want info that is many years old.

Not my area of expertise but came up with this data from 2007 - 2009 with the Stat's for Worldwide uptake of IPT.

Note that the uptake of insulin pump therapy in the UK at <5% of those people with type 1 diabetes is considerably lower than the 15-20% of many European countries and much lower than the >35% in the USA.

This is where the data comes from:

You might want to try Input see if they have anything newer.......

Had a quick look and found this from September 2010.....

Current utilisation of insulin pumps for type 1 diabetes in the UK (3.9%) is extremely low in comparison to other countries, such as the US (estimated at 35%) and Sweden, France and Germany (estimated at 15-20%)2.

Hope that is of some help.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but after a FOI from my hospital,

Patients with Type 1 = 1384
Patients of type 1 with MDI = 1174
Patients of type 1 with pumps = 59

Some 4.3% of type 1s with pumps.

They also gave me cost information.

Cost per pump = £2500 for a 5yr life span - for the 59 = £147,500
Cost of consumables per year = £1500 per patient = £88,500

They declined to give me costings for MDI patients, referring me to the health board instead, and they are declining the request.
