Ha ha , it shouldn't matter about washed hands , surely it's the blood , I tested the TEE 2 , and you can see below (or on my Tues morn post ), I think I'll stick to my Nexus even though it is more cumbersome . I get my yearly Hba1C soon , so will know a result from that , that's got to be accurate! . Thanks very much for the info , I have the Nexus on subscription so maybe if the Hba1C is good I'll cancel it . PreDiet ( With clean hands LOL)
IMO washed hands do matter. Also, the A1c test is not necessarily very accurate, at least according to Dr Bernstein and Jenny Ruhl in their books. Many factors can influence the result. Also it is an average so does not show possible peaks and troughs.

Firstly, you can get a brand new TEE2 meter FREE from
http://spirit-healthcare.co.uk/product/tee2-blood-glucose-meter/
Secondly, I have for quite a while had problems with very variable readings on my TEE2 meter. From the same drop of blood I might get eg 6.7, 4.9, 5.3. Obviously this meant I might almost as well not have tested. Yesterday I finally managed to talk to the adviser from TEE2. She told me that using the SAME drop of blood invalidates the results. If one wants to retest one has to do a new pinprick. Secondly, she said it is important to hold the machine vertically for touching the strip to the drop of blood. I have not yet tried multiple tests using her method but I will when I have more strips available (and feel in the mood!) However I am religiously holding the machine dead upright when testing.

In my disillusion I have bought a Codefree meter, so I can also compare this with the TEE2. I assume the same directions apply. I'd be very interested to hear how you get on if you do some multiple tests on different drops of blood.

I shall in future , religiously hold the machine upright ( awkward I think) and keep my mitts clean ( just in case lol) Same with my Nexus , it's scary though as a lot of people might be getting the wrong readings and doing the wrong thing . Thanks for the link I'll use that ( not sure as a pre diabetic I'd get a free one but the Tee2 is more compact and easier ) . PreDiet

You don't have to by any kind of diabetic to get a free TEE@ meter. It is their marketing strategy. They doubtless hope that once you have got their nice little starter pack and meter, and experienced their excellent customer service, you will go on buying their strips forever. This nearly happened to me, except that I didn't like all those variant readings.

Today for the first time I did a retest on my Codefree. Of course I used 2 separate drops of blood and held the meter upright! I got 6.1 followed by 5.2. This is not a lot outside the margin of error they allow themselves, but it makes a big difference to me. Like you I wonder how people using insulin manage on such unreliable readings.

Like you I wonder how people using insulin manage on such unreliable readings.

Many that are prescribed meters and test strips have access to much better quality meters, although that is changing unfortunately due to cost cutting measures. Some can argue that a certain meter helps with insulin calc or ketone testing and is necessary for management especially if they have the support of a hospital team.

The tee2 and codefree are popular among self funders and will do a decent job of helping people find a diet they can tolerate but I'd worry if they were prescribed along with hypo possible meds.

Could be the dawn phenomenon - your bg fell low overnight so your liver helpfully transferred lots of glucose to your blood to prepare you for an active start to the day. You can read about this here: http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/17561156.php
Next time moisturise AFTER testing?
Good you found out about the wicked sweetener.

I'm a big believer in exercise. Ok so your hip/knee are healing, Arms??? What about small hand held weights or elastic bands. I had a broken foot last year. So I had one good foot and 2 good arms. I was able to do some one leg squats, and many arm exercises. Be creative. Keep moving the parts you can move without further injury to hip/knee.
I'm very interested in what exercises are good to improve fitness without using legs. My husband has longstanding and continuing issues with one leg. You make a good point that the other is still good. I need to gently put this to him. He needs to be fitter for the summer as in spite of everything, he learned to Wakeboard last year. Im so proud of him and I don't want him to go backwards this summer, fitness and strength will help him overcome his other limitations.

IMO strengthening the good leg would be an excellent idea, as it must be working over-time partially to take over the work-load of the bad one. It would be a shame to develop injury problems in it. However, one-legged squats might be a bit too ambitious. I'm judging by myself, and perhaps your husband is a lot stronger than me (I hope so for his sake!) but I've never been able to do one-legged squats even though I do run and walk and do the occasional 2-legged squat exercises. There are lots of milder exercises he could do, and also core-strengthening exercises would be very helpful.

Yes he is strong but carrying a lot more weight than ideal, squats are probably too ambitious . I'll as him. At least he hasn't developed diabetes. I'm hoping that my wake up will help him to lose weight too. These post have prompted me to find out more specialist info about fitness, I think your core comment may be a good place to begin. Thank you for your time.

Stepups might be better than squats, which need to be done with perfect technique to avoid risking injury. I like stepups. They are what is nowadays called a "functional" exercise, that is they rehearse a movement that one actually uses in real life, unlike many weight training moves. They can be done anywhere you find a staircase or even a single step and they can be done unweighted or with progressively heavier weights. If you don't have any dumbells or similar you can always improvise with tins of beans or plastic bottles filled with water.

I'm no expert, but they sound brilliantly normal to me. Have you tried testing before meals and 2 hours after?
