Let me (age: 61 years) put some results after following LCHF food for the last 6 months.
3Kg weight reduced from 60Kg. Normally I am a lean person with minimum muscles. Now all my muscles lost and feeling less strength in bones and joints with overall body weakness. I am a polio affected person and now undergoing PPS (post polio syndrome). I doubt that LCHF will adversely affect PPS. I am a heart patient also with CABG done. Fasting sugar is around 120 mg/dL and PPBS is around 110 mg/dL (taking Metformin 1g two times). Is it good in continuing LCHF considering my present health condition. Please give your advice. Thanks

You have a complicated set of conditions, so it's quite difficult to comment, but it's hard to imagine that avoiding carbs (there is nothing essential about carbs) will cause you any harm and, as long as you are eating enough good fats and a reasonable amount of protein you should be getting all the nutrition and energy that you need. Eating a healthy diet (and that's what I believe LCHF to be) is unlikely to do you any harm and may be doing you a lot of good. Whatever your other conditions, it is important to keep blood sugars down and LCHF will do this.

I think you are a case who has to have your main Health Care Professional carefully work with you to ensure you are on track. Presumably you have before and present metrics for experts to cast eyes over. I am thinking, bloods and body composition. If I were in your shoes I would be driven by the numbers and adjust based on professional advice.

Your protein amount on LCHF should not naturally loose muscle mass, as this should be a "normal" adult portion; I did read recently that senior persons could perhaps do with some more, but again you need to be assessed and advised.

What does a typical days diet look like? Are you hungry often?

My diet:
Morning tea with milk.
Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs + veg. mix of onion, cucumber, tomato, capsicum, grated coconut, nuts, lime, olive oil etc. (one small cup).
Lunch: 2/3 piece chicken/fish fry with some cooked vegetables.
Evening tea with almond.
Dinner: Egg omelette with roti made of brown rise flour + almond flour+jack fruit flour ( one piece).
No unnatural feeling of hungry.
Morning sugar is always on the higher side than ppbs.
Please have your advice.

Head for McDonalds! Seriously I think the (now trendy) low carbs/high fat thing is mostly for those looking to lose weight, not a 60kg guy like you. I think what its main attraction is helping people lose weight and lower blood sugar at the same time by not being so hungry all the time eating French fries. You don't sound like you fit any of those profiles to me.

TheBigNewt - Of course you are entitled to your opinions on diet, just as anyone else, however there are many slim individuals living, healthily when utilising a low carb way of eating. Personally, I LC and am also gluten-free. Yes, I have to keep an eye on my weight - to ensure I don't drop any more, but having worked out my strategy to balance my intake with my energy expenditure, it's usually easy enough, unless I'm unwell.

Maybe replace the roti with a steak (or homemade beef burger made from 20% fat mince) so as to increase your protein intake.

To increase muscles you need to eat a lot of protein and make use of your muscles. If you google you can find some easy home resistance training methods. Your muscles should be telling you have worked after you have exercised, but recover within a few hours.

So this guy weighed 60kg, with post polio syndrome, goes on this diet and loses 5% (3kg) of his weight in 6 months. Says he has like zero muscle mass. He now weighs 57kg. How much more weight would you recommend he lose total on his diet?

@TheBigNewt
I am another that cannot afford to lose much more weight but I follow the LC diet successfully by balancing matters with protein and fats (mainly from protein sources) I did lose 33% of my body weight initially, then found a balance ensuring I stopped losing, gained a couple of pounds I needed, and have maintained for over 3 years. It is perfectly possible.

However, @tsaghosh has completely different health issues, so does need help from specialists in his field.

I wouldn't recommend he loses any more weight, but your assessment of the suitability of the LC way of eating for slight people seemed OTT.

Personally, I think @tsaghosh should be considering the bigger picture too, but I personally would be giving McD's a miss, and up my protein and fat intake.

A LC way of eating need not lead to weight loss.

You can get plenty of protein and fat and Mickey D's just skip the fries and shakes. Right? Fish filets and cheeseburgers baby.

Head for McDonalds!.

Gosh, I hope you are not an employee and/or agent of the Company, or one of its affiliates, subsidiaries, agencies and divisions? possibly a participating promotional partner, and their respective employee and or immediate family member..? o_O

This could be a breach of forum rule regarding advertising... ;)

McDonalds without the fries and drinking water is not a bad option for someone doing low carb!

Sorry I was assuming the bun would be put in the bin like the rest of the wrapper, just leaving the food to eat.

How long the increase in morning sugar due to dawn effect will continue after following LCHF? Can anybody give light on this scientific phenomena?

How long is a piece of string?

It all depends on how much insulin resistance you have, how quickly you are likely to reduce your insulin resistance, how efficiently your hormones are working, how well your pancreas works, which medications you take (not just for diabetes), how well you sleep, how stressed you get. Everyone is different.
