Just came back from doctors with new hba1c result taken Jan 12th. Diagnosed early September with hba1c of 95 now it's down to 49. A good drop but I was hoping for more.
Why the need to vent . Told now that my blood sugars were stable thanks to doctors medication ( obviously the drop is all to do with the metformin not my Herculean attempt at diet control) I don't need any more blood tests for at least 6 months.
Also as the cut off point for diabetes is 48 was told I'm not really of concern any more ( not best pleased when I told him I knew that 42 to 48 was at least prediabetic and still cause for concern)
I suppose I was stupid to expect more and do I really need a pat on the back and support to get it down further from him .... no I've had the only support worth having from this forum.
Anyhow l've been off loaded onto the diabetic nurses for my sins so judging from all your accounts I've got more jolly high jinks to look forward to.
Ok vent over (managed not to swear once so saving moderator redaction) well done me.
Willl continue to self test, low carb and lose weight. Here's hoping next ones in the thirties :)

Great news and well done. Channel that anger at getting your HbA1c even lower next time to prove the Health Care "Professionals" wrong!

As you’ve said you get the support you need here so have a pat on the back from here too! You’ve nearly halved your HbA1c for goodness sake. I achieved that in four months too and luckily have a more appreciative GP! I’m still with my appreciative GP as our surgery doesn’t appear to have a Nurse specialising in Diabetes luckily.
Keep up the good work!

Well done - great result.

It sounds to me as though you have fallen lucky that your GP has washed his hands of you. He clearly hasn't a clue. You may well find you are better looked after by a nurse - if you are lucky. The diabetes nurses in my surgery receive regular diabetes training. I doubt most GPs have had any since they first qualified. The nurses see many more of us than the GPs do, and have more specialism and experience. OK they still push the Eatwell Plate, or most of them do, but otherwise aren't too bad at all. In my experience. I prefer a nurse over a GP any day as regards my T2.

Poor grammar, bullying and drunks.
That is a smashing reduction, well done that man!

Fun and games with your DN, methinks but you might drop lucky and get one that supports your efforts, there are a few. Fingers crossed.

You've done a phenomenal job, well done.

Don't let some ignorant GP ruin what you have achieved. The positives far out weigh the negatives.

Great result and definitely in the right direction. Having experienced similar since diagnosis 3.5 years ago, I now nod, agree that I am indeed a model patient, continue with LCMF and ignore the Eatwell plate. My surgery has now handed diabetes checks over to a Health Care Assistant who told me last month that ' at least he didn't need to tell me off'. Thank heavens for this forum.

That’s amazing, what a reduction in such a short space of time. So much hard work on your behalf really has payed off and will keep on doing so by the sound of your attitude towards improving your control. They will only get better if you stick to what you are doing.

Hopefully the dn will allow you to come back in three months time for another blood test so you can see the even greater progress your making and then have their jaws drop.

Think you’ve earned a pat on the back from the whole community here. Have a few from me ;)

Very well done on what you've achieved, don't let the lack of support from your GP get you down! I've been lucky to have a great DN - you never know, you might too, but if not the support on here will see you through as you continue your mission.

Well done @Dusty911 . Doctors, on times, have not got a clue and what we do to keep control of our BGs

Here is a BIG pat on the back for doing an amazing job :)

Customer helplines that use recorded menus that promise to put me through to the right person but never do - and being ill. Oh, and did I mention customer helplines :)
Why the anger? Your on the right road and doing really well, who cares what your uninformed doctor thinks. Although its stunning to think there are doctors who think that Metformin can delivery miracles ;)

Just carry on with your new lifestyle and live a long, healthy and happy life.

I got mine from Endo team and GP. I hope yours is stick forthcoming but if they are too busy, we are here. Well regardless, we are here.
Well done mate! :)

Absolutely amazing result! I echo others' pats on back and congratulations - fantastic work. I wouldn't worry about being written off by your GP and being 'offloaded' onto the DNs - probably the best thing as there are some truly wonderful DNs, and hopefully yours will be too.

That's true about metformin without good diet your wasting your time taking them or even picking them up from the chemist. Alcohol seems to affect mine, from what I remember, too.

I think they should stop diabetic nurses in practices and have a nutrition specialist and a care assistant instead. Then type1s and other insulin dependants all having specialist assistance at hospitals.
I'm shocked to hear type1s struggling with insulin management.
DN in practices are needed more in specialist units. They are crying out as short staffed.
Type2 management is becoming more straight forward with all extra meds available from GPs. More meds on the horizon too.

I'm looking forward to just annual blood test and GP appointment again on basal insulin and metformin after bariatric surgery. In fact I'm looking forward to less appointments, full stop. :)

Similar to me but my second HbA1c was 50. Doctor was impressed as I did it without meds, though I don't think they make much difference. My last 4 have all been in the thirties so hopefully yours will as well.
