Hi.

Is anyone here using Toujeo long acting insulin?

Back in August last year one of the GP doctors (that specialises in diabetes) that I saw changed my long acting insulin from Lantus to Toujeo. He said it would give me a better 'profile' and said doctors don't really like to prescribe it as it's more expensive than the 'other stuff'.

When I first started taking it I did have one really weird night time hypo/dream (I did mean to post about it on here back then - but then forgot). But since then I haven't experienced the same again.

I'm not sure if it has improved my night time bloods, but one thing for sure is that the pen/injection method feels a lot smoother than the Lantus used to.

So back to the original question. Is anyone else on this insulin and what it any was the doctors reason for prescribing this one over the other 'cheaper' insulins?

I seriously have no idea what that even means. I've only been diabetic for 25 years

The Toujeo is a 300 unit pen whereas the Lantus says 100 units on the pen. But even that doesn't make sense as when you take the pen top off the units show 450 for the Toujeo and about 260 for the Lantus. Anyway, I doubt that's what you meant.

One thing I do know is that it's 3:53am. :arghh: So much for 2018's go to bed earlier. Insomniaaaaa!

Its the same as mine.
Do you have insulin resistance like a type2 as well as type1? How much toujeo300 are you using per day? Only once a day, right?
I'm using 72units but I'm severely insulin resistant.
Or are you funding your own insulin? Many are buy this insulin to save money but I think just a fraction are. Type2s especially as triple the strength of lantus and only one injection per day unlike lantus which is twice?
My consultant wanted to reduce my large amounts of insulin going in one injection sight. I was going through pens very very quickly. Less injections peer day for me. Novarapid more flexible for me than a mixed insulin.
I've read toujeo300 is expensive but not compared to quantity.

I'm struggling to keep my evening bgs down without more novarapid. My added 3units of toujeo300 makes very little difference unless near my needed units but same with all my insulin's. Its not recognised then WHAM its there. My fatty liver is the cause.
Do you have fatty liver too?

I went onto Toujeo 18 months ago. I think the eventual plan is to phase Lantus out. It’s benefits for me are, not splitting the dose and a better flat line.
Last nights results shown on Libre were as flat as a pancake. Am on less than 10 units which I take at exactly the same time each morning.
Ironically, did a bit of a test yesterday. Last food and Humalog at 2pm. Basal bang on, happy days! (Ready for my brekkie this morning)

I was switched from Lantus to Toujeo and it has worked wonders for my blood sugars

Good luck to you

Toujeo 300 means there are 300 units of insulin per 1cc. Lantus 100 means there are 100 units of insulin per 1cc. There are 3cc in a Lantus 100 pen, probably only 1cc in a Toujeo 300 pen. 300 units of insulin total in each pen.

I was on toujeo for a couple of weeks and it made me have terrible highs so I went back to lantus. Now been on tresiba a week and that seems to be much better. So far...

Im on toujeo as levemir was only working for roughly 20hrs and the doc thought the longer profile would be better with toujeo!
