hi, so we were told to go for c peptide test as that is used to differentiate between Type 1 and Type 2. Our readings are
Insulin - 69 pmol/L
C Peptide - 699 pmol/L

We have no idea what the Normal readings should Ben but these are low as suggested by our nurse and she in turn checked with a consultant.
Can someone suggest what is the normal range for insulin and c Peptide please. We just want to establish how bad these are for us. Thanks

I can't comment on the insulin test but c-peptide tests seem to use a confusing range of units and even the tests vary. My test had arrange between 1.1 and 4.4 which, if you move the decimal point a bit, makes yours around 0.699 if I'm right. That is low (mine was 1.19). The nurse or GP would need to confirm the result meaning but I suspect the insulin level is low enough to be needing insulin but you must check what treatment is suggested

You're gonna have to have the endocrinologist interpret these based on the conditions under which they were drawn. As I understand it the advantage/reason for the C-peptide test over the insulin level test is that you can use it whether or not you are taking synthetic insulin (pump, injections). If you are not taking insulin I think the insulin level is accurate in determining is you are making enough of your own insulin or not.

I've had a c-peptide test, but mine was firstly taken with a fasting blood sample then tracked how my glucose and c-peptide levels changed over 2 hours following 75g of carbs (a sugary drink).

Its hard to tell whether your result of 699 is high / low without knowing the conditions the test was done under. My fasting c-peptide was 255 which is low, but still shows some insulin production.

That test is called an oral glucose tolerance test.

Thanks all. We went to see the Gp in order to interpret the cpeptide and insulin test results which were 69 pmol/l and 699 pmol/l But we were told that we have to see a specialist consultant as the GP is not sure what exactly these numbers mean.
Will wait and post once we know more ...

THis test seem to have given not a lot of info as no one seems to know how bad the results are for us?

Cpeptide 699 pmol /l
