Bullies.
I don't have an endocrinologist unfortunately, I am only seen by my GP in respect of my type 2.
I see my endo for a pituitary problem and it was his view that taking the max daily dosage, if it can be tolerated, is of great benefit.

I have read the article - it is full of mays and mights.
I am definitely amongst those who do not do well at all on Metformin and a statin - which one of them did the most damage, or caused the most anguish I can't tell and I am not prepared to make the experiment to find out. Not willingly.

The evidence of the effects of Metformin beyond blood glucose control is now strong. Many existing medications are being investigated for repurposing, including exenatide for its neuro-protective properties for people with Parkinson’s Disease. That research is also positive. Of course, you are under no obligation to take any medication, whether for its original or repurposed use. All medications have possible side effects and if side effects are a problem then perhaps the medication is not for you. Others may not get any side effects and may be able to benefit from original and repurposed benefits.

Does the re-purposing also mean re-patenting? not that I have a persecution complex about big Pharma but....

This link might be of interest to those considering the benefits of treatment with Metformin:

http://onedrop.today/2018/01/31/met...-60089165&mc_cid=2f973d2c38&mc_eid=be3ae6ab8f

I'm quite alarmed at the "commercialism" of this source site. & the rather shallow "sales pitch" regarding the "fountain of youth" pill.

As a type one myself...
With regards to the subject of trials of metformin on T1s? (An autoimune disease killing of insulin producing beta cells.)
They discovered in a trial/test; "Metformin was well tolerated, albeit with a trend towards increased hypoglycaemia." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20057994

Well yes! Along with the fact that metformin also retards liver dump too. The lows would come on pretty quick..

There are safer ways of managing A1c for a T1. Looking good for your age as a T1 boils down to lifestyle choices & a little luck with the genetic make up. ;)

Seriously,
The way this drug is apparently being remarketed. I can see someone like Madonna picking it up & spreading the word regarding the secret of her extended longevity..

Quite frankly, a cynical venture in the face of diabetics that genuinely need the drug.
It's bad enough insulin being used/abused in weight lifting by non Ds.. ;)
