I am finding that the Low Carb and Keto is now becoming very commercialised, making magical claims. The word cure is far to simplistic. I prefer the word "Control" Everywhere on the net now, and YouTube everybody seems to be jumping on the bandwagon making fairyland claims that we are all going to be cured if we eat this way or that. Oh and low and behold if we say that we are eating a vegetable that perhaps another person cannot, they can make you feel as if you are committing a sin. "You cannot eat that its not Keto they cry" lol..I am not talking about here but other places on the net. It all seems to be getting cosmetic.

Bit like some of the claims made for ultra low calorie diets you mean?
With all these claims you really need to dig down into the underlying data. Keto seems to work pretty well in lots of people. Very Low Cal seems to work for fewer at least looking at results from here. There are pros and cons for both. I think it's more about what people find it easier to maintain.

I think that is a thoroughly fair way of putting it. Pro's and Con's for each and what is needed is a continuing flow of good quality data and robust debate to try and figure out what might work best for you.

Oh, I think that Keto works well also..But I get fed up with people on YouTube trying to flog books. Also, people who are on Keto constantly telling others that they should not eat this or that. Some nearly have a fit and a drama because somebody on Keto eats a small portion of carrots.Don't know why you mention Low Cal Diets I am not denying the hype regarding Low cal and Fat Diets.I just wish some people would take Low Carb seriously instead of making it seem like a trend rather than a way of life

The one that works best is the Suture Diet. That's where you sew the guy's mouth shut. Very consistent results.

I have to be honest and say that I have seen some youtube videos where there has been a definite kind of 'Keto Snobbery' going on. This defeats the purpose of spreading the word that keto does have health benefits for those with a metabolic syndrome as well as overall health improvement in the general population. It is putting some people off. The body building community has to take its share of the blame here.
The videos of people expounding the virtues of grass fed meat that has been massaged and pampered, wild salmon and supplements seem to say more about the fiscal availability of these snobs rather than the actual science.
I am left wondering, at times, whether these snobs would choose the keto way if money was tight or if their status re health changed and some curtailing of dietary choice was absolutely necessary.

As with everything else, some people jump on the bandwaggon for profit or for bragging rights or to be seen as a 'leader'. We are left to sort the wheat from the chaff.

This would work on those who spout verbal excretia, too.

Don't forget that Atkins is a keto diet, possibly the first and most notorious. Slimfast / Optifast/ Cambridge diets are also mildly ketogenic, and by inference the Newcastle Diet too. Any diet that incorporates significant fasting is also using ketogenesis some of the time.

I think that the more popular diets (i.e. that appeal to the general population at large) tend to hype up the wonders of so called healthy food sources (e.g. grass fed or whole grain) so they appeal to the fad dieters and passering by nibblers. It is an advertising credo that you have to sex things up in order to sell. All we are seeing is the start of that trend happening for the newer diets such as keto et al.

People here decry the WW and SW diets for all the added sugar, but that is what sells and makes people come back for more. I believe the original Coca cola used trace cocaine in their product during the Vietanam War years listed as a herbal ingredient.

Couldn't agree more. The only thing I would add to your comments is that in recent years the Diabesity pandemic has created a need for science based information to improve prognoses and quality of life for the growing number of people who, on diagnosis, find themselves having to wade through guff to get unbiased, altruistic advice.

Hence this forum.

This is the reason that I once posed the question of a video library to be included within the forum. Sadly it seems the logistics prevent such a library.
