No sign of lidl rolls in my local store today. Not even a price sign anywhere to show they'd run out

I would have thought they would appeal not only to diabetics, but people into certain fitness regimes as well who try to minimise carbs.

I also know someone at work who loves them, she mentioned them ages ago before I did, and she has no need for low carb foods, she just liked the look of them so tried them and raved about them.

My grandson buys them because he likes to keep fit. He buys them for the protein content. I know at least 2 other non-diabetic people that buy them because they like them. One time I was in Lidl I was standing by the basket and was joined by another lady. As I was intending to take them all I asked how many she wanted. She said all of them! We ended up sharing them between us. She said she uses them for lunch time sandwiches for her family because they are healthy.

When they disappeared last time and I was speaking to the manager, I said how wonderful they are for diabetic people. She replied the low GI rolls are made for diabetics. She was shocked when I mentioned carb content. She also said the HP rolls are their best sellers.

I’m the only diabetic in our house, but my husband loves HPRs because they keep him satisfied for a long time when he’s working (he has quite a physical job). The five in my freezer are MINE though :D

They are still showing on their website and the weight interestingly is minimum 85g. No shortage locally luckily.

That is interesting because the weight previously was 100g. (I think 95g minimum) so hopefully they have just changed the size (again!) and they will be back on the shelves. It is exactly what happened last time.

Quite right, as the only diabetic in the house, the last 5 rightly belong to you! I've only got one left in the freezer. I'm saving it in case it's the last one I ever see :)

Ages ago mine were consistently 85g, then about a month ago they were consistently 100g, then more recently they were all over the place. Including a very strange tiny one that, to my shame, I ended up putting back in the bucket after manhandling it and realising it was about 2/3rd the size and weight of a normal one!

If they do go down to a steady 85g that's a pity. They are already expensive for their weight compared to most low carb / high protein breads. But still worth it, there's nothing quite like them.

They had High Protein rolls on sale at my local LIDL yesterday. Still the smaller size at 29p each. I bought half a dozen.

That was very restrained, only buying 6, @Prem51. I would have just tipped the contents of the basket into my trolley.... I am beginning to think it's an Out in the Backwaters of the UK supply problem or rather certain Backwaters like here, because it's odd that they are still in stock in some areas. I might go back through the thread to see where members are still buying them. On the other hand that might lead to a serious 'expotition' somewhere exotic. ;)

Snap! I am saving it for Easter when I shall cover each slice with lots of butter, crunchy peanut butter and crispy bacon. There's a fine balancing act between saving it for a special occasion or leaving it, only to find it has got freezer burn and now resembles sawdust.

Haha! I know what you mean. All too often something I discover in the freezer fills me with excitement, remembering buying it months ago, only to discover that it's turned to powder.

I still have my solitary roll left. I've been to my Lidl twice since the ovens were back online, and they haven't had any HPRs, or any buckets labelled for them. So I guess my store has also stopped making them for now.

I'm going to see if I can have a chat with the manager next time, to add to the pressure for their reinstatement. Failing that we definitely need to do a social media thing.

Peanut butter and bacon!? Reading that made me go from appalled, to disbelief, to fascination, to the desperate need to try it :)

I like trying uncommon combinations. Last night for a snack I had a tiny bit of extra mature cheddar, with 5 tiny slices of a very expensive and rock-solid textured (you literally have to saw through it) chilli-flavoured salami from a local producer, with 3 small pickled onions, 5 honey roast almonds and 10 honey-roast peanuts. The combination of fat, vinegar, heat and sweetness was much nicer than expected. Was only about 3g of carbs in spite of all the sweetness as well.

I may well utilise my very last HPR on the peanut butter and bacon experiment!

You could make a killing.

I think they are expensive at 29p, but what with being unable to get them, I'd be tempted to pay 50p each plus postage :)

PM sent!

Not really :)

Not yet, anyway!

Diet drinks - the artificial sweeteners taste vile.
Having to forswear foods I have loved all my life.
Trying to find low carb meals when eating out.
A couple of pictures from our two local Lidl stores showing rolls on the rack.:)
Plus a picture of the freezer. 20 rolls in the middle drawer and 16 rolls in the bottom drawer.

I went to my local store (Gravesend)and purchased 39 and was informed that they have stopped selling them,I phoned head office and was told that the suppliers had put the price up and Lidl's said that they could no longer make a profit on them, and that was the reason, but they wouldn't tell me who the suppliers were:)

I think a lot of us might possibly stretch to even 35p a roll if pushed.
If cost is the only issue.

Exactly. I wonder what data Lidl has which says that they "can't make a profit on them".

I suspect that they have no data whatsoever, and we need to give them the data!

29p was expensive compared to bread, but I'd go even higher than 35p considering how unique they are in helping me eat a bread-like substance without the blood sugar consequences.

50p seems over-the-top, but even so, half a roll per day, i.e. 25p out of a food budget, can help make for enjoyable food.

My nearest Lidl (12 miles) has stopped baking them "for ever," I was told by a woman at the store with a clipboard (executive level?) This is a pity since the baker on duty was always obliging and either put some by for me or told me when the next batch was due out of the oven. I always mentioned the rolls' value to us diabetics.
I am experimenting with as many of the ingredients as I can to see if they are replicable. Enough to say I'm eating some pretty weird slabs of gunk so far :yuck:

Stop it. Just absolutely stop it with the roll porn photos!!! :banghead: AND the #NotBraggingMuch bragging!!!!! :bigtears: ;) Please could all you people with over-stocked freezers (you KNOW you don't need that many) drop roll parcels from a Herc? The West Country isn't too dangerous to fly over, honest. :angelic:

@AdamJames - it has to be crispy bacon. Try it! Lashings of butter, lashings of crunchy peanut butter, lots of rashers of nice really crispy streaky bacon. I have seen this made with sliced tomatoes but I haven't tried that - could work? Smooth p.butter would also work I would think but I like crunchy, not quite so teeth-sticking. Gosh, I'm hungry..... :hungry:

The LivLife bread is a good alternative, the only other bread that doesn’t affect my BG. But only Waitrose sell it, and I have to travel miles to get to one...
