injustice, intolerance, bad manners, things that offend my neuropathy, food, the few days before a hospital visit, being helpless, "does he take sugar", wilful ignorance
Something to bear in mind is that the Equalities Act 2010 may well apply when considering problems at work...

It was hurtful, cruel and insensitive.

I’ve not experienced anything like it.

She was horrible to everyone in the office and that was probably the reason she got kicked out.

Very sad!
Our new office manager who just started a few days ago had found out from a colleague that I am diabetic and was taking daily insulin injections last year.

Her comments about me were very hurtful...

“Oh dear, he’s got a dreadful, chronic illness. He’s going to end up in the hospital...ambulance all the time, yuk!!!”

I just ignored her comments and kept quiet but with a very heavy heart!

Anyway I found out this morning she was sacked from her job and was escorted out of the office for reasons I do not know and don’t really want to know.

Good riddance!

Just a heads up. It may happen again directly and indirectly. IF so keep a diary, document everything. It’s admissable if you’re faced with such a situation again and need to go to an employment tribunal.

A manager I had once told me if he had known I had diabetes he would not have hired me. Whether he was joking or not I don't know because I was in such shock that I couldn't even ask.

Later someone told me his own wife had had serious complications with diabetes, so if it was a joke it was a rather horrible one considering his own situation, and if he really meant it, well. He is not my manager any more!

An aquaintance of mine works in the public sector and has to do some driving, one day he had a bit of a funny turn, sorted it out but then the Manager came along and asked him to take over a driving route instead of being in the office, he explained that he didn't feel safe to go out driving and they tutted and muttered all day long.

dishonesty, people who throw garbage out on to the streets,
Yes i did people need to think b4 they speak about something they know nothing about .
I know a lot of intelligent people who didn't graduate high school, that doesn't make them rude. Maybe you meant ignorant rather than uneducated.

I am not impressed with the feeble, whiney way you dealt with this. As soon as this came to your notice you should have told the colleague who spilt the beans about your medical situation to put a sock in it and not to discuss your affairs again. You should also have told the office manager in plain English that her commenting on your medical situation was completely unacceptable and that, if it should happen again, you would be making a formal complaint about her to the company's management.
That would have made things perfectly clear to everyone involved and would have offered the best likelihood of drawing a line under this. What happened to the office manager later was quite obviously unrelated to what happened to you, and there is no point at all in your whiney post.

In the UK ignorant and uneducated mean the same thing, as in not knowing something. Its not a rude term here. I read it as the poster meaning that the person needed to be educated about diabetes and its effects, not educated in the 'general education' meaning of the term.

I have US friends who consider the term 'ignorant' to be very rude, as they seem to have a different slant on the meaning over there, from what I can gather.

This is an international forum, and different words can have different meanings, depending on where you come from. I try to assume the posters mean well, and ask for clarification these days.

Instant Karma is always good to behold.

Never hold back from challenging this sort of behaviour though. By ignoring it, we effectively condone it as being acceptable which it most certainly is not! Sometimes a quiet word is enough to get someone thinking about the fallout and disrespect a comment like this can have. Also the legal repercussions of failing to meet the requirements of various equality laws can place a business in a very vulnerable position. No new manager will get the support of their up line under these circumstances.

I was always told that failing to challenge inappropriate behaviour is worse than the inappropriate behaviour in the first place!

I was trying to avoid any confrontation and arguments at work and speaking to the manager about her remarks wasn’t going to do me or anyone any good because she was a bully.

She would not have listened and she would have most probably sacked me.

I don't think she could sack you without going through a disciplinary procedure including warnings. At this point you would have the right to explain what you said/did and why.

I understand that comments like that can be hurtful but as previous posters point out you need to take control and ask why they think they can make comments like that. Help to educate them about Diabetes. As a manager they should have far more understanding and training on staff relations, they should not be commenting on medical matters on which they obviously have very little (or no) knowledge.
I am a T2 who was on Metformin and Forxiga, until a separate health problem required me to take Cortisone (Prednisone) resulting in the need for insuline injections. I must admit I have been pleasently surprised by the ease of insuline injections, although I would like to be able to go back to just the pills (or one better pre pill days). I think that the doctors could do a much better job of educating, T2,s on what exactly is involved with injecting insulin.
