So, It's been more than a month since my diagnosis and I've been doing pretty much fine now. I remember when I was diagnosed with Type-2 how scared I was as I had no idea to cope up with the condition. My condition has been improved since the day 1 and I'm progressively moving towards a healthy lifestyle. Also, I've cut off carbs from my diet and right now I'm following a keto diet. My journey has been good so far and the readings have improved.

I hope you all are doing good too! Here is some valuable information about "our" condition: https://zovon.com/health-conditions/diabetes/

Also, share your progress stories in replies, I would love to know how y'all are doing!

First congratulation to your success!

BUT - I have to say something:

At your web page there is this sentence: "Consumption of red meat and processed meat increases the risk of diabetes even in people, who consume only a small portion. Consumption of 3-ounce serving of red meat increases the risk of type II diabetes by 20%."
I don't believe in this statement about red meat.

Also there is this statement about diet:
"
i. Diet:

For managing diabetes, the dietary intake of fiber should be increased along with a decrease in sugar and fat intake, especially saturated fats. Foods to include are:

  • Fiber-rich foods like wholegrain bread and cereals, beans, pulses and other fruits and vegetables.
  • Foods low in fat; replacing butter, ghee and coconut oil with low-fat spreads and vegetable oils.
  • Including skimmed and semi-skimmed milk in the diet
"
I strongly disagree with this hint for diabetes type II.

So you now know and follow KETO diet but still you post a web with standard (and non functional) diet advice. :-(

The dietary advice in the link also includes this sentence, include “Food rich in fibers include fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts, etc”.
Only nuts and limited fruits (berries) should be in a low carb diet. So that contradicts what you’ve said too! I agree with @rom35 it’s a silly link to post if your advocating low carb eating!

I'm still very sure about the red meat part though, here see this article posted by Harvard magazine https://harvardmagazine.com/2012/01/a-diabetes-link-to-meat

Here is the actual report, I believe
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4295827/#idm140467348195536aff-infotitle

There is a more up to date edited version of this, but I cannot get beyond the paywall. This copy is free public domain.

It was reported to be funded as:
"The diabetes components of the Nurses’ Health Study and Health Professionals’ Follow-up Study have been mainly supported by NIH grants DK58845, U01HG004399, UM1CA167552, UM1CA176726, and UM1CA186107."

No conflict of interest was stated.

It must be noted that the way this study worked, the main bulk of the study was a data collation exercise, and these reports were carried out by third party analysists who were not involved in the data collection, but used the raw data that was collected.

Edit to add:

The following study was more recent
http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0157990

The problem with western diet and modern meat production is in that it is diffficult to find truly unprocessed meat products, and the suspicion is on the additives and preservatives used to give longer shelf life. and keep the meat looking red and juicy even after it has been shipped halfway round the world The prime candidate at the moment is Nitriles which is also associated with an increasing risk of cancer

The following study report was published concurrent with the Harvard diabetes study (2014) and uses data from the ADVENT 1 and ADVENT 2 studies conducted by the 7th day Adventists to prove that vegan life is healthier than omnivore, Its author Neal Barnard, is well known here on this Forum but it could be levelled that he has a singular viewpoint so could be considered a man with an agenda,. (IMHO)

To change the subject slightly, but on a parallel note re: Harvard data analysis
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29635498?dopt=Abstract

Don't eat cruciform veg either since these too raise the risk of diabetes !!!!! Shock Horror statistics.

Edit: looking further I found the following commentary on HSN that may be of interest, It seems red meat is not seen as a significant outcome for diabetes by this author.
http://www.berkeleywellness.com/hea...cy/article/nurses-health-study-40-years-later

Edit: These HNS studies keep crawling out of the woodwork: Want to know which fruits to eat?
https://www.bmj.com/content/347/bmj.f5001

I found the following comment worrying, considering that they only analysed confirmed T2D in this analysis
"Deaths were identified by reports from next of kin or postal authorities, or by searching the national death index. At least 98% of deaths were identified among the participants"

I'm glad that I only prefer to eat raw apples and avoid any kind of fruit juices. Well, sometimes I do cheat on this and drink fruit juice when I'm coming home from work and feels very hungry. Also, They only mentioned a few things that can help in maintaining blood sugar levels. So, I searched online to know about more foods and here I found this one http://danielpatrik.moonfruit.com/

This was good to read for me and thank-you for this fruit juice theory, I will try to avoid it as much as possible!
