Hospital vs GP - Diabetes Care

I feel as if I am not getting too much help from the hospital and would get all tests done at GPs if they could access my pump funding or cgm kit but they can't.
What value do you lot get from your hospital visits other than HbA1c results?
I get my pump from the hospital and advice on basal levels.
I have no confidence that someone without specialising in diabetes would be able to make sense of my BG levels at different times of the day.

Outside of my annual review, my diabetes nurse responds to email on subjects such as how to manage my pump during upcoming surgery. Again, I would not expect the GP to know how to avoid being put on the sliding scale.

Regarding your pump, have you looked into openAPS? I don't use a pump myself so I can't speak for how good it is or how easy it is to set up, but the creator won an award recently for her work on it. https://openaps.org/

Hi there realistically there is no need to attend the GP if you are under the care of the hospital, the reason the GP wants you to attend is to fulfil his QOF targets for payment. You have the right to say no as I do every time they try.
That is spot on! It’s a complete waste of time for us type 1's and also for the GP's who are pretty stretched as we all know and most aren’t geared up to type 1's. Am sure the £ signs are rolling in their eyes when a type 1 with good HBa1c strolls into surgery for a review but it’s not through me helping.

I was diagnosed by my GP, sent to the hospital where the diabetic team confirmed it and set me up with insulin, blood tester and so on. They kept me most of the day and once satisfied that I could manage, sent me home. They phoned the next morning and a week later to check all was fine, before passing me over too a local diabetic clinic. A couple of weeks later, the clinic went over it all again and had me see a dietician before passing me back to my GP.

Since then, I see my GP and practice nurse annually. I haven't visited a clinic or the hospital since. My experience of type one has been ever so straight forward, with good HB1ACs each year. I will admit to visiting a podiatrist at my own cost to have full foot care checks as I know, like most practice nurses, ours are jack of all trades and master of none.

On the downside, my diabetes is so steady, I stand no chance of CGM or pump funding as my GP says I don't fit the criteria.

Interesting reading.
However, it relies on an accurate CGM which I have yet to find. The last Dexcom I had kept me awake at night warning me I was too low when a finger prick confirmed I was 6.4.

I'm happy to attend both as the hospital are quick to pick up on problems with my blood, eyes, etc., and the Diabetic Nurse at my GPs has more time to discuss new equipment e.g. new pens or meters that have been released. She recently went out of her way to try and find a pen for my Lantus that that showed when I last injected it (similar to the Echo pen), but to no avail, but at least she tried which I doubt they would have done at the hospital clinic.
I attend both every 4 to 6 months at hospital and every year Diabetic Nurse at my GPs. But unlike some of you my nurse just seem to find fault with what hospital says and they both do same checks. The point I really want to make is no one ever tells me about any new equipment like pens or anything. We are so far behind with diabetics here in Northern Ireland.

Do you use a syringe, then?
