I have used Isophane or NPH insulin.
The 'cleaner' insulins that replaced it are Humulin N and Insultard.
If you Google humulin insulin profiles it will show you the company's diagrams of
these insulins -when they reach a peak of sugar-lowering action and how long their action (usually) lasts.
Insultard and Humulin N have identical actions according to the charts. I am not saying everyone would have exactly the same response but something close. So it could be that your doctor is changing the brand but not the type of insulin.
Humulin R is a shorter-acting insulin than Humulin N and I could not find a Humulin N/R.
There are mixtures of insulins in the same bottle called variously, Humalog 75/25. Humulin 70/30 and Humulin 50/50.
Of course there may be other Humulin brands in some countries.
I hope that helps, but the best bet is to have your diabetes nurse and/or doctor explain your prescriptions.
