Hi,
Thankyou so much for your post! I read your link with diagnosis and 4 month follow up and I shall continue to check up on you. You are a very strong person!!! Thankyou again for allowing me to do that. What a journey! I totally understand that wake up call in the middle of the night when all the demons come to call ... it’s a scary time... during the day we cope and get on with life, the night brings all fears to the surface.
I shall have to wait for he 18th for the test but to be honest I’m sure that that is what it is .. gradually over the years the numbness has gone from foot to lower leg now right up to my knee ... even sitting down for breakfast will put them to sleep and the cramps in my toes are awful.. like as if a nerve has been crossed .. z
I used to exercise a lot then I had a few accidents and my physical health didn’t really recover, much to my chagrin, so for approximately the last six years is when I’ve noticed year by year ( although always put down to lack of minerals by docs ) a worsening of my legs. And finally this year they allowed me to do these two tests which obviously I’ve had to wait a good few months for ...
I will let you know how it goes on the 18th!!
In the meantime I’ll be thinking of you! Take lots of care and keep writing!
Best wishes
Gem

I am no stronger than anyone else Gemma. In fact feebler than most. What I have done is manage to take in that I have a problem and am trying to do what I can.
The fact that you have been T1 for such a long time proves that you have the wherewithal and courage to manage a long-term condition. I am confident that you will get a handle on anything else that life throws your way.
There is support available, not least here for you.

It was very late when I typed on my phone so sorry I meant the other condition, not type one diabetes, but I see now that it wasn’t clear at all, so sorry about that.
My apologies too,it was late when I replied.I should have switched my brain on x

Hi,

I recently did some reading on atherosclerosis (which is the calcification of arteries) fora a relative. Atherosclerosis would be a cause of claudation.
Almost everything I read seemed to be saying that once diagnosed the trick is to stop it getting worse, rather than expecting it to get significantly better.

Two things gave a bit more hope. I won't go into detail, because they are both fairly non-conventional, so you would need to do the research and reading yourself and make up your own mind.

The first is a couple of studies done with high oxidant pure pomegranate juice
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15158307
There was a study for a year, with a smaller followup 3 year study

The second is Vitamin K2
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26176325
elsewhere I have seen some youtube vids suggesting that there are ongoing studies to discover whether larger doses of K2 over longer periods will reduce existing atheroslerosis

There are, of course, plenty of other theories and more conventional suggestions out there, and I don't want to imply that either of the suggestions above should substitute for conventional methods, as suggested by your health team.

Hi Brunneria,
Thanks for everything, I’ve just downloaded the K2 book by the professor from the first video on my kindle, that shall be my bedtime reading tonight ...
I am unable to access the two links you sent me
Is there another way to access them?
Yes I have read the same the only thing is to stop it getting worse, which is why I suppose I am rather cross, an understatement obviously, as I have been complaining for years and as usual been fobbed off. I don’t have a diabetic team ... they don’t exist in Italy .. their are no diabetic specialist nurses either. I have a GP who can drive me crazy with his superficiality... and a diabetic specialist who has so many patients that is almost impossible to access, even at the more desperate times... it’s also not just this one doctor... it is always like this ... except obviously if you pay upwards of 200 euros a visit ( usually lasting 10 mins) and even then it is not always useful or satisfying.

Nevermind, I shall try to bring these things up with her, even if I have to say sometimes it’s impossible with 5/6 medical students hanging around and disorganization everywhere ... by the time I arrive to this hospital an hour and a half alway and then queue sometimes an hour for the check in process and hen they are running late anything from half an hour ( this has been the best time so far) to 2 hours, I can safely say I am tired and a bit fed up and by that time going low or have already hypoed so not being able to have a decent conversation with he doctor is really frustrating as it tends to be about ticking boxes...
But we must be positive
There is always a rainbow somewhere waiting be found
Best wishes to you and many thanks again
Gemma

Ah, sorry about the pubmed links not working.
I think you may need to register to get access. If that is the case, then i must have registered so long ago that i have forgotten it happened.

Alternatively, you could google ‘pomegranate atherosclerosis study’, and i expect you will find it being discussed repeatedly in different articles and websites.

Sorry to hear about your appointment woes. Sounds like a similar story everywhere, with country specific variations!

Hi everyone,
I would like to thank you all for being so kind as to reply to my question. It is lovely to know that there are people in this world happy to help another in trouble.

I am quite new to the forum and it was my very first question, no doubt I shall be asking many more.
I have received some good advice, info, support and kindness, all of which I value greatly.

I shall let you all know the outcome after I get the results of the test.

In the meantime just to let you know why I think it’s all to do with diabetes control is that I am a non smoker, have low blood pressure, (always have had and even too low at times) high good cholesterol and low bad cholesterol ... and under the new lower limit. No statins and at last heart check-up (3 years ago) check up everything was good but will see about getting another one by Xmas.
Hba1c was 57/58 in Feb, but have mostly been on Libre since end of March and hopefully it has come down since. I’ll know on Monday when I pick up the latest results. Although it’s not stable all the time still highs and lows, mostly unexplainable, but low carb is helping a lot.

At the end of the day my only vice is wine ... not everyday of course, but if you take away sugar, carbs, and gluten ( I’m Coeliac too) it doesn’t leave much else to have a vice with

Take care all
And best wishes for a lovely summer!
