I Give Up

They don’t care as I said. I’m on my own with that’s why I’m after the freestyle so much.
If I was in your position, my focus would be to get the care rather than the gadgets that I need: the gadgets may follow.
If your GP is not giving you the support (by which I mean much more than Libre), I would push to see a diabetes specialist who understands your condition.

So all the people that have blood glucose meters should be reliant on care which in my case I can’t really get ???

I need that Gadget as you call it so I can monitor myself.

I am saying you should get that care.
To a GP who knows very little they may see little value in spending their budget on Libre whereas a diabetes specialist would have more understanding

I’m sorry forum I’m just so down and depressed it should not matter if I’m T1 or T2 we all pay in to the NHS and they just muck us all around. I noticed you can get the freestyle on Medicare in the USA what a joke England is.
I do not get the libre but yet but feel I will eventually (supportive GP and diabetes team).
As a type 1 it is highly likely I have cost the NHS more than I have put in through NI after 36 years on insulin, test strips, 2 pumps and 3 c sections and neo natal care plus 2 eye surgeries. This was all due to diabetes and I have to take some responsibility for any mis-management of my condition and continue to strive to find the best tools (like fsl) to help me improve my health. I sinceerely hope that I do not need to trouble the NHS too much in the coming years!
I agree that the NHS needs more funding but it is not a zero sum game in which if you took all the money paid in bankers' bonuses etc. or taxed corporations or top earners more or took the money we spend on foreign aid away then you'd solve the problem (the usual populist solutions). We have to produce more wealth such that more people are employed and contributing. We also need to reduce illness and take public health measures to ensure healthier old age. I think the latter is what many on this forum are trying to do individually at least.

I don’t see anyone just the doctors which are useless.
Karl my gp didn't even know what the libre was. Lots don't. I was lucky enough to get the libre approved for me on the nhs. But without the terrific support of my DSN and hospital consultant along with many letters putting forward my case to the local CCGS it wouldn't have happened. It was hard work but worth it in the long run. Like others have said you need your DSN on your side. Mine is invaluable. Good luck.

I was reading earlier about a super 6 diabetes model, where only people with T1D who had complications, or poor control, were seen at hospital clinics, and the poor souls who do their best get only to see their GPs. Do you fall into that category. Some areas seem to have that system.

It's not very helpful if you feel unsupported by a system that is supposed to help you with your diabetes management.

Keep pestering your GP. It'll be available at some point.

I’m type 1

Hi I’m totally shocked that as a T1 you do not have a diabetic consultant and team at a hospital. You definitely need to get referred .. a general practitioner knows nothing about diabetes .. they probably spent a couple of hours on it in med school... and things are changing all the time in the kinds of treatments that are available. Please please please get a referral to a hospital diabetes specialist. You will be so much better looked after.
Best wishes

To helensaramay,

What on earth makes you think you have free access to the NHS healthcare?

It is financed by central government using contributions from every working person in the country and by taxation on nearly everything you buy in the shops ( VAT ) or on services you use. Nobody is exempt.

Whether or not the NHS is good value also depends on where you live. Some services are available in all locations, but if you have the “wrong” post code, you may be deprived of some services most of us believe to be a necessity. Diabetes care varies in quality and in quantity, depending on your post code.
