I’m not sure I fancy answering all those questions! So, basically I am 67 happily married mother of 2 with 5 grandchildren aged from 4 to 12. I was diagnosed with type 2, 12 years ago and have basically struggled since! A year ago, I was put on insulin, which I hated as I felt a failure, put on loads of weight and found it difficult to manage. Three weeks ago I was put on Trulicity and so far, so very good. My sugar levels have gone from 8 to 6, I have lost 4lbs and my insulin dose is down from 48 to 32. I have joined this group to see how others are getting on with Trulicity.

Hi all,

Very recently diagnosed Type 1 diabetic exactly one week ago. I went to my local hospital with a very painful abscess under my left arm, and after discussing surgery with the medics, a routine blood sugar showed very high levels (22/23) and immediate admission to hospital. Had the abscess operated upon on Friday morning, before being started on a twice daily insulin injection. Discharged on Saturday evening, and have spent the last week recuperating.

Here goes with my questions and answers:

What is your name? Greg (Shilts)
- How old are you? 37
- Are you male or female? Male
- Which country are you from? England, UK
- Which city/area do you live in? West Midlands

- What would you say your favourite music genre is? Trance
- What is your favourite flag? The one that indicates a great beach!
- Ever gone camping? Yes
- Ever been in love? Yes
- Ever used fake tan? No
- Which countries have you visited? France, Spain, the Netherlands, Scotland, Ireland, Turkey, Tunisia, Malta, Greece, Cyprus,
- Favourite city? Edinburgh
- List your five favourite TV programmes. Only Fools and Horses, The Detectives, Open All Hours, ER, Alan Partridge
- List your five favourite films. Apollo 13, Casino, Ocean's Thirteen, The Martian, Gravity
- Are you wealthy? No
- Do you work? If so, as what? University Lecturer - Initial Teacher Training
- List the subjects you study/have studied. Degree in ICT with Qualified Teacher Status, Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education and Professional Practice, currently studying my Master's in Education.
- What do you like most about yourself? I have the ability to get on with most people
- What do you like least about yourself? I take on far too much responsibility for others and put myself last

Looking forward to learning a lot about this new condition of mine, and contributing where I can.

Hi I am a 56 year old male from Melbourne Australia who was diagnosed type 2 in July 2013. I commenced on insulin and Diabex and have experienced the highs and lows associated with the condition since my diagnosis. In September 2017 my HBac1 results and weight were the highest they had been over that time so I decided to try the Michael Mosley 8 week diet which enabled me to lose 12 kilos and come off my twice daily insulin injections. Over the following 12 months I have maintained my weight around the 95 kg mark and have been prescribed Diabex 1000 XR and Byetta.
Following my recent 6 monthly endocrinologist appointment I have as of this morning ceased the Byetta and commenced on Trulicity so looking forward to the next steps in my improved diabetes management. I am hoping to lose another 15 - 20 kgs over the coming months as I recommence a more Mediterranean diet and low carb eating plan along with my medication changes.

Best wishes to all

Regards

Cameron

Hello all I am Daniel from England, I have been a type 1 diabetic from age 15. I had a hard time upon diagnosis, my blood glucose reading was 28mmol/l and I had weighed 5.5 stone from 9 stone, my extremeties (nose, toes) had started to turn black because of lack of blood supply I think, and the doctor told my parents if i had not gone to the hopsital that night I wouldn't have made it, it all happened so quick from the beginning of december, i was diagnosed 1 month later, I didn't even realise I was that bad because it felt like I had flu like symptoms, but I did drink a lot of water my parente got the doctor out even though I said I would be ok. According to the hospital I was the first person in the childrens ward to ever administer my own 1st injection.

I don't like to let Type 1 rule my life I work, go hiking and enjoy playing videogames and watching movies every now and then. I take Ice cold showers instead of warm ones because I believe this helps control my condition better even though it probably doesn't.

It is nice to meet all of you

Administer your own injection! Wow! I heard about the ice cold shower conditioning thing but have been too chicken to give it a try. Conversely, if your sugars are too high, a hot bath will lower them

So, what kinds of music do you like?

Yeah it came as second nature, the ice cold showers were difficult at first but it instills more disipline I feel like its helped control diabetes better as a whole, wether or not it benefits my blood sugars is anyones guess but it is good for the blood, start off warm and then cold for 2 minutes at end of each shower getting colder each time! Its invigorating!, really? I never heard that regarding a bath, does it work for type 1? All sorts really but more into rock from bands such as Def leppard, Nickelback, like some linken park, pendulum, 30 seconds to mars black stone cherry etc

Wbu?

Hi
My name is Steve,

I am 53 and have been diagnosed T2 since the middle of 2017.

My medical background was a HCA1 spike to 72mmol in the middle of 2017 last year that meant I was put on Sukkarto SR 500mg and 3 months later the Sukkarto & changing to low carb high fat diet worked as my HCA1 was back down to normal levels. I am over weight and always have been.

This years annual HCA1 check resulted in another spike to 72mmol. Now my Sukkarto SR is 1000mg twice a day and I have just joined the T2 testing program. I had problems in getting blood to test and I notice the lancets do not puncture but go in at an angle tearing the skin rather than puncturing it. I've noticed there is a Lancing device in the Lancets box and will see if I get better results with that as it is different. My first reading was 8.6mmol and as I was uncertain if that was right I took another and that was 10.0.:nailbiting:

When I was told "I love my carbs" by a diabetic nurse who assumed wrong when I said I had steak egg and chips for tea. I have already cut down my carb content and don't use sugar or salt, or drink or smoke even. Now I am completing a meal diary and cutting my carbs to the minimum and having a half hour walk most days. Hope that works.

Honestly I am scared.

Hi, my name is Steve, I'm 62 and just been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, with a HBA1C reading of 6.2. I'm quite a bit overweight, but trying hard to lose a bit by following a Low Carb diet.........coupled with a bit of Intermittent Fasting. I've lost about 23 pounds so far, since diagnosis at the end of July, and I'm hoping to lose a lot more. i'm due back at the quacks for another blood test on Nov 3rd, really hoping to get that HB1AC reading below 5.7 by then.
Did 25 years in the army, then another twenty years in IT, now working as a Civil Servant in East Anglia. Married, with three grown up children, each of which has dropped a sprog, so I'm a grandad. I've got a dog called Scamp, and a cat called Marmalade.
Joe Average, that's me.

Hi everyone, I have been diabetic for almost 10 years now and I’m type 1 on tresiba & humalog insulin’s managing quite well with the occasional hiccup where I can’t resist a biscuit., in general tho my nurse says I’m reasonably healthy plus I walk almost 8 miles a day depending on the weather but when I’m out I make sure I have my glucose tester with me plus my hypo kit just in case I get a hypo my partner also carries spare gluco gel & gluco sweets in her hand bag., I have monthly checkups with my diabetic specialist nurse and she helps me with insulin dosages based on what I’ll be doing/eating etc. She’s really good to me in the way that she explains things in ways that I understand and actually take notice of what she says plus I’m planning a charity walk for diabetes uk soon and hoping to raise some money for the charity while I’m walking, I have just received a new contour next glucose meter that connects to my phone via Bluetooth so will be setting that up ready to replace my accu chek mobile if anyone has the contour I’d be interested to hear their thoughts on it.,
