a step too far?

Hi all,

I have got my 6mth review tomorrow with the dsn-
Feeling a mixture of apprehension and excitement  the reason for the excitement is because of how brill my blood glucose has been since I went low carb in April.

I have just printed off a summary from my Onetouch UltraSmart software and whilst it's compelling reading for me - I'm not sure if my dsn will be equally thrilled, I'm scared I'm gonna bore her to tears.

Does anyone else take print-outs for their reviews and if so what sort of response do you get?

Just for good measure, I also printed a random 2 week summary from before low carb, got to prove my point eh!

Cheers
Lindsey

Hi fergus,

will do. Gonna try and get a good nights sleep so I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed for it. Do other people get this wound up before their check ups? Maybe I need a hobby! :D

Good luck Lindsey and well done, of course you must take your print outs with you and if it is a good doctor he/she will be very interested and wont be bored to tears at all.
And yes everyone does get worked up before tests/reviews, so dont worry, its all normal.

All the best

thanks for the support...

Just got back, she was as pleased as I was with the results.

HbA1c pre-low carb 7.8
HbA1c low carb 5.8

The first thing she said was that I must be having alot of hypos to have an Hba1c at that level! However once I told her that have cut starchy carbs from my diet she didn't question the lack of hypos. ( I have honestly never had fewer hypos - only 2 in the last month)

My cholesterol was 4.26 which she said was a little high, but as you and I all know, that is not where the money is -she has ticked the boxes to have triglicerides and HDL checked next time, so will hope to have a better idea then.

She was very interested in my 'freaky eating' and said that a high protein diet was always recommended for diabetics when she first started out, (she is due to retire at the end of the year) giving you some idea of her age

The other interesting thing was that when I told her that I had found the novorapid 1/2 unit pen to be really helpful she hadn't heard of it. Bit worrying

Was quite good fun really, and she was genuinly pleased and couldn't help but laugh when I told her my insulin doses as they are quite low,
midnight 6u levemir
breakfast 1 1/2 u novorapid
midday 5u levemir
lunch 1 1/2 u novorapid
eve meal 2 1/2 - 3u novorapid

Just wanted to say, if it wasn't for the people on here willing to share their knowledge and spend time conveying it everyone, I would still be at the mercy of my diabetes and not living my life to the full, my only regret is not finding you sooner.

Ta

Nice one, Lindsey. I'm really pleased for you.
5.8% is great progress, it really is. Keep it up and you'll be in the 4% range one day. Then watch their faces at the clinic - believe me, it's priceless!

All the best,

thanks fergus

must admit, I had hoped to be at the lower end of 5 but until they make a low carb version of crisps I fear I may never reach the 4's. Would dearly love to, but those cheese and onion keep calling!

Anyone got any ideas for low carb crisp alternative, have tried oven baked parmesan wafers and whilst they are delicious, not quite hitting the mark.
