His guys, I was just diagnosed with type 1 on Tuesday so I'm still new to everything, but I have a little bit of a question, I've been feeling fine all day, taking my insulin/blood sugar level and ketones as normal, but my eyes are really starting to worry me. When I'm on my phone or watching TV or just staring at nothing my vision gets a little blurred, it's nothing too extreme but I am concerned. Can anyone recommend what to do? Thanks in advance.

Hello @KatieLove92xo welcome to the forum :)

Yes what your experiencing is common with diagnosis and will take a few weeks to settle down, it’s your bodies way of getting rid of excess glucose and oddly enough some even state tasting sweet tears upon diagnosis, hopefully things will settle down soon.

If your recently diagnosed type 1 your eyes can go blurry fuzzy due to the impact high blood sugars has on the little nerves in your eyes, you should speak to your doctor about that and your optician because you will probably get some correction lenses for a time and after a month or two they should go back to normal if the damage is temporary :)

If your bg is getting lower, your eyes need to adjust to that, as they've gotten used to high bg. Blurry sight is normal with changing bg, it will settle itself.

Hi @KatieLove92xo, Welcome to the forum and good on you for posting !!
From my experience, not professional advice or opinion.
Your body has become used to higher BSLs than usual and this also causes the lenses of your eyes to swell. Your sight has adjusted to this new state. Then, with diagnosis and commencement of insulin, your BSLS are improving.
Meanwhile your eyes and eye lenses need time to adjust which may take ? 3 months + or -.
Eye specialists and opticians advise to not have spectacles prescribed during this time as these will not be correct when your eyesight finally stabilises.
Please keep asking questions and look particularly at the Home page and the items under Type 1 Diabetes.
I would urge you particularly to read up the article there on hypoglycaemia and show it to your family and friends.
Take things step at a time. Develop good lines of communication with your health team, ask them about plans for sick days and the like and learn all you can from reading and asking questions here and with your health team.
At 51 years on insulin I am in good health and still learning. And just to let you know that there are T1Ds on site who have been on insulin for 40, 50 60 + years and are in good health. Welcome, fellow warrior !!!

Hi

I agree with all the comments above. As you get this under control you will see changes that seem odd. If any concern you then ask away, we have all experienced oddities and can be a sounding board. If in doubt speak to a doctor or diabetic nurse.
