Superdrug New Pricing

Went to my local Superdrug Pharmacy today to collect two new Libre sensors only to be told that Superdrug have put the price up by £5 per item to £40. When I asked why I was informed that it was that at £35 each they were not making any profit.
Sad to see another of our High St stores profiting from diabetics.
I have written and complained to Superdrug but don't expect to get anywhere.

Its still cheaper than Asda (£44) or Abbott (about £48) if it helps - I don't have a Superdrug nearby that isnt a complete PITA to get to.

I agree about Asda and will start to use them again as my nearest Superdrug is a 22 mile round trip. It was worth it at £35 a pop but not at £40.

Superdrug are a business specialising in medicines. If they don't make a profit on what they sell they go bust and people lose their jobs and investors, mostly pension funds, lose their investments. You can check and find £40 is about as good as it gets anywhere in the world. Can you find it less than £40? If so buy elsewhere. If not you're still getting a great deal. You are complaining to the wrong people. Perhaps you should challenge the manufacturers on their wholesale prices. They would say the research and testing cost tens of millions that they need to recover before competitors catch up. Having seen first hand the hoops these types of products have to jump through they would have a point. Abbott's margins look pretty dreadful to me so I wouldn't think they have much room to discount.

Hoping that this technology will become mainstream and that the purchasing power of the NHS will encourage more and cheaper options to come onto the market and eventually replace strips. I cannot expect a retailer to subsidise my purchase when there is no commercial benefit to them but do think this is a 'common good' and so should be paid for by the us all via the NHS.

Abbott sell the Libre sensors to the NHS for £35. Pharmacies buy them from the NHS for £35, they could if they wanted to, sell them to diabetics for £35 as Superdrug have until recently been doing. Superdrug do NOT stock them, nor are they subsidising them, they only get them in when requested. Abbott are NOT selling them at a loss either. My point was why have Superdrug, without warning, decided to increase the price by a fiver ? It cannot possibly cost a fiver to order 1 sensor from the NHS, it's not even if they have to have yards of shelf space to store them. I'm surprised no one else thinks this is just a rip off.. Maybe I've just had a bad day.

If they sell things at cost price how do they pay their staff, their rent, their business rates?

They were selling them at cost for months and now suddenly decided to put the price up. Great publicity if they sold them at cost and had a campaign saying how much they supporting the diabetic community. Never mind Nuff said

Storage, transportation, and administration costs money. If they buy at £35 and sell at £35 then they are losing money.

Probably a pricing error to start with rather than an attempt to rip off diabetics.

maybe they had a certain amount they could sell at a special price, and now they have run out of them and the new stock is more expensive.

I mind the days when you had to buy a box of syringes. The wholesaler needs to work to get the product cheaper. Maybe more people will use it.

I went today to my local Superdrug in Angel, Islington and already had to pay £42. The pharmacist told me from today the price is even £48. :banghead:
That was a fast rise in price. From £35 a month ago to £48.

I went to my local Superdrug today and was informed they had gone up to £49.50. The reason being that they had to order them separately for each customer. Not happy

I have gone back to ASDA, they set their original price at £44 Nationwide before Superdrug started provided them. The price hasn't changed so I have gone back to ASDA and ordered two.

52 is more than Abbot! Free delivery at the moment due to shortages - you can only buy 3 every 24 days.

They are mad! I will order from Abbot in the future as my nearest Asda is nearly an hour away.
