Do I wait till Diabetes take full force ? What's going on ?

I took Prednisolone for a week last November, and it took months for my blood sugars to get back to the normal range. So, yes it does take a long time.

I don't want to be rude, but it's almost as if you want him to have diabetes. Be glad his blood sugars are now reasonably normal.

Of course I don't ! I feel guilty of trusting my dermatologist to give him an X amount of steroid whilst putting bandages. I came on here to ask for advice. Don't tell me I want my son to have diabetes. He has enough health complications as it is. Why would I want to add more to that list ?

People who try and make Diabetes the centre of the party and poor me, I'm special because I have diabetes now everyone run around after me.
If you are really convinced he has any precursor to disbetes, go to another endo. If the other endo says your son is fine leave it at that and let your son grow up without any constraints or worries. However I would wait until he showed 3 or more diabetic symptoms

I really see no reason to worry. A HbA1c is an average of several months, so the steroids from 4 months ago could still affect that average. Please take your boy off the LCHF diet if he doesn't need it. If he's losing weight it might be affecting his growth, which will most likely not catch up later. I know you're worried, but please... This could be harming him, and do permanent damage.

We don't do much low carb now since we've last spoken to the endo. I make low carb bread and wraps and that's about it. Low carb has made me more aware that I need to broaden his diet a bit more. Before low carb, my son would eat loads of cereals...now I am more imaginative with breakfast ideas. E.g. Breakfast muffins, Eggy breads etc. But, I've stopped low carb but still do low carb breads and other things and switched up carbs to wholemeal (brown rice and pasta).

the steroid, at the time, may well have been necessary. Managing conditions are often a compromise, but given your son does not have diabetes, the amount of steroid he had was not inappropriate or harmful.

what has happened with the dermatologist and the steroids?

remember that many breads and cereals are fortified with vitamins which he needs. there is no need for him to have low carb breads. There is a need for him to have enough vitamins and nutrients.

what has happened with the dermatologist and the steroids?

The endo said it was an overdose and that steroids are not supposed to be used with oocculation..(putting on a bandage on top of applying a steroid- especially a high potent one). The Dermatologist was persuading me to keep this up for 5 months, when I resisted, she said I was basically wasting her time and I can go to another dermatologist if I don't agree with her methods. With what she said, I blindly took her advice.

The endo wants me to stop applying steroids. I have done so. His skin is under control as I'm using much more natural products. We use zinc bandaging which helps a lot and dead sea salt with magnesium salt baths.

I didn't think of that ! Your right ! I will add cereals (but not much) into his diet. But he was having cereal, before going LC, every day. I think, for breakfast, it's good for it to be varied.

Children don't get type 1 slowly - it hits them very hard and very fast. That is why it is so dangerous.

Steroids could easily push up a hba1c result.

Personally I think you should stop testing him, relax and let your son enjoy his childhood

Then feeding him food appropriate for his age should be a top priority.

Well since we've had the results from Endo and confirming that it was the steroid rising his hbac1 level. I feel she is avoiding me. Every appointment I have with the Derm, it's always with someone different. Other dermatologists have agreed that I shouldn't give him any more steroids and are happy with the natural stuff we are using. They have prescribed us specialists banding and zinc viscopaste.

I had a very bad skin condition last year and saw two consultants one privately and one for the NHS.
Skin is a tough one, no pun intended, what seems to work one day doesn't work another and doctors tend to prescribe steroids when often its a process of elimination and like you say using therapies that work for you.
I was told by both consultants it was really serious, and seemed to disbelieve me when I said it was getting better without steroids, its a bit like the low carb diet, if it doesn't conform to their knowledge its doesn't work. Perhaps they are not ignoring you they are just out of ideas. To see a private consultant was about £250 and she was far more through than the NHS, she wrote me a private prescription which I used about half of, but I thought she listened.
I found forums really helpful, for my skin problem, lots of different ideas, some of them a bit quacky, I had a cupboard of lotions and potions and just worked though them.
Its tough with children, you have to find what works for you and your child can tolerate. Raised blood sugars are a well known side effect of steroids, he is off the steroids so that will resolve. If you are worried about what he is eating start a food dairy and see if anything he is eating is making his skin worse, but increase his calories, and see if there is a pattern.

Hello everyone, I'm really confused about my son. The endo reckons he doesn't have Diabetes and it was the steroids that made his blood sugar levels go towards the prediabetic range. He has recent HBAC1 test and it was 6 ! His last HBAC1 was 5.8 or 5.9. What's going on ? His had all antibodies tests and they were all negative. I test his blood sugars one hour after meal and they are within the normal range 6.8-7.6. Wha is happening ? Is it just a matter of waiting it out till he developing full blown diabetes. His endo was discouraging me from doing a low carb diet as he doesn't have Diabetes and the diet is making him lose weight. I'm just at loose ends.
Big hug @Thewomanintrouble perhaps this would get more replies ona different thread. @DCUKMod

I just feel really sad
Your clearly doing everything you can and being proactive.

If he has got T1D, it can be a pain in the ass but it's far from a death sentence and with a supportive mother like you I'm sure he'll be fine.

Have you considered buying a Libre sensor so you can see detailed reports of what his blood glucose is doing? It maybe going a little overboard but I'm sure it will answer your questions regarding T1D.

It sounds if you are in a race that passed the finishing line and you are still running.
RELAX!!!!!!
He's young, and supposedly fit man. I would be more worried if the Endocrinologist ask's for a GAD65 test, and waiting for that result. Us T1's have difficulty eating a Pizza as it makes our BG go to the Pluto Planet, and never come back!!! Oh shure, we have insulin to do that.
Your Boy is Fine!!!!
Is he an active physically?
