No I’ve not had steroids for 10 years. I’m on Azaphioprine, mesavant and infliximab every 8 weeks. I also read yesterday about the link between the two. Autoimmunes are still so misunderstood

Hi Emma
You mentioned trouble with your lancet drawing blood. Just wanted to say many of us use the Accuchek Fastclix which is a dream to use. No fiddling about with lancets, you load a drum cartridge containing 6 lancets which most of us use many times before rotating to the next lancet. I thought it might be of interest. Wishing you all the best.

Hi Emma

I am in a similar position to yourself in terms of health issues and medication. I was on Azathioprine for a long time, and have recently been changed to methotrexate. I started on biologic therapy about 4 weeks ago.

I can definitely empathise with how you must be feeling at the minute.

I hope you get some answers tomorrow.

Yes I bout the accu chek yesterday. It was just the first couple of tries I think I set the depth too low so not enough blood cane out but I got the hang of it.

You won’t regret going on biological treatment. After my azaphioprine stopped working infliximab has been a dream come true. I’m symptom free now and I’ve had 10 infusions. At first the treatment takes about two hours because you have a steroid drip first to help with bad reactions and then they give it slowly , after about 5 or six they do it faster and you can be in and out in 30 minutes

Thanks Emma I am hoping for great things from this treatment. I am currently on steroids which I am hoping I can evntually these once things get established.

I am sure this is a club you did not want to join. I would stress the fact that you have Colitis if they suggest any of the oral Diabetic drugs for you. Many can really upset your gut.

Good luck for tomorrow

I will mention that today. I’m in at 10.20 and my fasted blood level just now was 9.9. It was 8.1 when I went to bed, not sure why it would rise ? Then again I still don’t understand this condition

I was hoping for Metformin, I’m a little scared of insulin, not so much the needle but getting it right. Eating right so it doesn’t go too high but if it does and I inject insulin and it goes too low ? That worries me. But if tablets may upset the colitis , that’s a worry too

Hi Emma, good luck with the appointment.
Check out liver dump and dawn phenomenon, my highest BG of the day is usually 8 or 9 at about 9 am. I then usually manage to keep it down between 6 and 8 for most of the day, 6 to 8 is high but that’s how my body is :-(

Yeah 9 seems to be my average at present. I’ve eaten much more carefully over the weekend. Trying to limit impact on my blood sugar with better food choices.
It’s been a real wake up call I can tell you.
Hope you are off the steroids soon. They usually taper you off before starting biological but I suppose if you’ve been on them a long time it’s a longer process. I was on them for 8 weeks only and they didn’t work so they started me on the Azaphioprine in prep for the infliximab whilst taking me off pred. The Azaphioprine worked so well I didn’t need infliximab and was on azaphioprine for around six years before it stopped working and I had to go on biological. I’m still on Azaphioprine though but only 2 a day

So I’ve had my blood taken and they have sent them away for 3 different tests.

My ketone level was 4

They said it will take a few days to come back. They will not do anything for me until those results come back. So I guess more waiting

Hi I had my annual check up with my Gastroenterology consultant last night and he said it is diabetes. I also have a fatty liver, which he said he will monitor closely as he is the top liver specialist in the area also. He said it will obviously be type 2 but didn’t confirm. When I mentioned my ketone levels he went very quite so I don’t think he knows. I really hope they did a test for which type, because if they didn’t I’m pretty much back to square one. I’m actually seeing the GP tomorrow and I’m going to ask them.
It’s the ketones that concern me. I read that ketones lean towards type one but I’m sure you guys are more knowledgable than me on the subject

So I’m diabetic. Obvs ;-) lol they said my averages the last few months were 7 ?? I don’t know if that’s % or what. They didn’t test to see what type, they are guessing at type 2 . I’ve been prescribed Yaltormin SR 500mg tablets, which I will collect from my pharmacy later if they have them in stock. I see the diabetic nurse next Thursday so I will ask for actual numbers. I got the impression the GP wasn’t really an expert

Pleased you are a step further forward. The medication you have been prescribed is also known as Metformin.
This is one of the drugs commonly used in the management of type 2 diabetes.

Go armed with plenty of questions when you see the Diabetic nurse next week. You will have had a couple of days on the medication by then so can let her know how things are going

Hi I’ve not posted here in nearly three weeks. I’ve been on metformin and found out today I’m pregnant, I’m scared but happy because we’ve been trying for 10 months without success and wasn’t going to continue till I got this under control and lost about 4 stone. I think the metformin has played a part in me getting pregnant. Maybe it helped in some way I don’t know. Now I’m hoping I can get advise so I can have a healthy pregnancy
