Hello,

This is my first post, though I’ve been dropping by the forum for some months.

I’m Tom and was diagnosed with Type 2 about five years ago. After being in middle aged denial (I’m 51) for a number of years I started to change my lifestyle nearly two years ago.

I’m very relieved to say that I’ve lost 102 pounds in weight, I’m off meds and my blood sugars are in good order. I know that if I return to my high sugar lifestyle my condition will return though.

I just wanted to say I how grateful I feel to members of this site. Though we haven’t interacted, the mutual and collective support you give to each other is inspirational.

Now that my brain fog has lifted and my joints don’t ache like they used to, I feel that it’s now time for me to help others who share our condition.

I’m still on a journey to understand Type 2 but I know from personal experience that the system seems stacked against people who are trying to change their health. Poor food labelling, hidden sugars in our food, conflicting nutritional advice, widespread confectionary advertising and lack of choice, as well as confused signposting in the NHS make it difficult for people to improve their conditions. I’d be interested to hear your experiences.

For now though this is just a big thank you. By being part of this forum, you’ve given me hope and inspiration. I can see that many others feel the same.

Best wishes

Tom

My name is Nancy, I am 65 and live in Scotland.
I've recently been diagnosed as type 2(I was hoping it was a mistake) and am now taking metformin and a statin.
I currently work in retail banking, hopefully not for too much longer!!
We have two children , both married, and a granddaughter soon to be 1.
I like reading and knitting and I try to go to a gym 2/3 times a week but don't do a great deal when there!
Am really confused by the conflicting advice about this diabetes and am not sure what I'm doing....
