So if you knew the sheer amount of work that went into averting this, why would you imply it was something made up by the media. Um the civil service say they have not, cannot be making adequate preparations.
My point was that the media play up any speculation of disaster and don't report any preparations to avert it. How much of your work pre Y2K got into the media compared with the stories of doom?

We are suffering from Cameron's legacy.
He thought he could quell dissent in his own party. Instead he stirred up an hornets nest of malcontents and those who have vested interests in investments.
One particular ardent brexiteer moved his company to Dublin, so I am told.

There is always too much hot air and lack of rational debate on the run up to events like the referendum.
I hope to goodness we are not getting like the USA with their paranoia over the Mexican border when the welcoming Statue of Liberty at the other end of country proclaims the exact opposite assertion of, perhaps, a Christian paraphrase, welcoming the masses to the shores of the Land of the Free.

I hope eventually British good sense and balance takes control again.
Then we shall know this is not all about privilege but the best interests of the country at large.

We should put Britain first and buy British. If medication isn't available in Britain, I see no reason why it shouldn't be and why British companies can't start making insulin and other pharmaceuticals . It can't be that difficult.
A lot of our business leaders are rent seekers.
The way they are bleating about Brexit, one could see that all they do is cry crocodile tears and our compliant govt will enact policies that will capitulate to their demands.
I am frankly shocked that anyone thinks for one second that people will die due to lack a insulin, just goes to show how effective the nonsense we are being fed has been. lets try to get a grip, if we are so desperately in trouble because we are leaving the union, we should never have joined in the first place so getting out now must be a good thing in the long term, we should be able to stand on our own two feet.

Everything is fine, its all just something for the tv reporters to talk about, no one will die, no one taking insulin will run out unless every one starts panic prescriptioning, this is all just scaremongering so the remain campaign get a second vote. if the government are stock piling then we don't have to, they are either doing it to save money when things get more expensive or doing it to show the EU we are prepared to walk away, either way its not armageddon.

I voted remain by the way
Common why spoil the fun with a sensible post.
Some of your young 'uns believe we must have been some vassal state of Europe before joining the EU.
Wow just wow.
One way of keeping us carnivores out.. wonder what water buffalo tastes like...

Hindus eat water buffalo because cows are sacred

I used to get cryovaced buffalo rib fillet and rump from a woman that worked in a meat works in the Northern Territories. It was very nice to eat cooked on a barbeque or grilled, it's near the same as beef.

Bets on brexit going ahead after this week?!
I think it might not happen, but I will not put money on it.

I was an in voter but I am also convinced that a huge amount of nothing will happen, at least nothing that will affect the average Joe (or Joanne) on the street, it may cost us more money or lower our standard of living but generally I expect a huge anticlimax, people will not be dropping dead in the streets.

Heres hoping anyway :)
Main problem is disruption to established supply chains

no we won't run out, if anyone thinks that the EU and our own country would put millions of lives out / damage peoples health then I would suggest yoyu see a specialist
It's disruption to JIT supply chains. Fairly obvious

I am actually more worried about the huge distraction that all of this is from sorting real problems.
Agreed. We've wasted years on this nonsense and failed to address real issues in society and the economy

But, why don't we do that now? We have some incredibly complicated supply chains. It would take years to become self sufficient in medicines and we have no control over foreign manufacturers, or where there decide to manufacture

Really some detail please because I see little evidence of it.

Have they started production in the UK in the last 3 and one half months.

What was true a couple of months ago is most probably true now complacent viewing of the world through rose tinted glasses is not going to do any one any good I do not feel at all reassured by the progress made so far.
I don't think there's any evidence that we're on top of this at all.

I don't know why we don't do it now. Buy British used to be shouted from the hill tops at one time. I was shocked recently with a news item. A group of illegal immigrants were caught at Newhaven docks inside a lorry. The lorry was carrying bottled water. Why???????? We have as much if not more water in this country than anywhere in Europe. It just blew my head in reading that.

We are not going to war with the EU, they want to sell us all of their wares just as much as we want to buy them. Britain is self sufficient in just about nowt and the whole world knows it. Can you really envisage French suppliers saying 'Non, we will not sell you our delicious cheese'? Can you see a time when EU countries deny us access to medications and at a bigger profit, too?
That's not the point. They will still want to sell us stuff. It's disruption to supply chains caused by customs checks. Many components to factories or items to stores are delivered on a Just In Time basis. Companies do not hold large stocks of inventories. Check out these videos
