Hi

So my original nurse has gone off on long term sick now and I was dying to go in and brag about my 3 month improvement. Ended up seeing a nurse who was covering but also seemed way more clued up.

She asked me right out was I doing lchf and said it was the best thing for me, went into way more detail about metformin and said not to bother going to the healthy eating class as it would help as much as low carb! She was really encouraging about me testing my sugars too, told me to use this website and the diet doctor one. So all good.

Coming up to Christmas now though and am finding the temptations are harder to resist. Plus maybe am feeling a bit cocky about having a number reduction. Will admit have slacked off a bit but my numbers are still ok. Any tips to keep me on straight and narrow?

You could get yourself arrested for something that will get you banged up for a month? Hehe christmas sucks but easter is worse :) I love mince pies so just make low carb ones thickened double cream om hot low carb mince pies, yum, satisfies me

But yeah its kinda rubbish, luckily after enough years you stop missing stuff, if your gonna fall off the wagon, do it all on one day, dont spread it over the holiday period, one day wont do any harm plus you will be sick of it by the next day :)

Won't work. The average prison meal has more carbs than a christmas dinner!

Sounds like a wonderful nurse, @Sprocket 2 !

As for christmas, what about filling up your plates with veggies and meat first, and only after eating them have some of the trickier stuff? That way you'll eat less of the 'baddies' and the carbs won't hit as fast because they have to get past the other stuff first.
Do you like cheese? If so, why not do a cheese plateau for desserts. Most of it for you and a bit to share with others in exchange for a bite of their dessert?
You can also come o the party armed with some chocolate covered nuts (90% chocolate, melted and poured over favourite nuts) to help you out when the others have sweet stuff. Again, share a little in exchange for whatever they are having to prevent sorry feelings for yourself.
Merry christmas! (and if your plans don't work, just start again on the 26th!)

This is my second Xmas, but my first Xmas Day roast lunch, (long story involving an operation and being discharged on Xmas Eve, Xmas Day went by in a haze of morphine!).
The actually roast lunch I’ll just have what I have for a normal Sunday roast, plenty of meat and veggies, one tiny roast spud and just a splash of gravy. It’s the sweet treats that prevail that are the things that are likely to pull us all off the wagon. I have over the last couple of weeks been making low carb sweet things, not necessarily traditionally Xmassy but tasty all the same. They are stored safely in the freezer. Here are some of the things I’ve made:

https://www.ibreatheimhungry.com/lemon-almond-shortbread-cookies-low-carb-gluten-free/
https://www.ditchthecarbs.com/low-carb-carrot-cake/
Today I’ve made these, using sugar free maple syrup they work out at 4g carbs each and are just like plain chocolate Bounties:

I’ve still to make a low carb basic cake to use to make a low carb trifle with sugar free jelly and low sugar custard, strawberries and cream and these biscuits which are lovely with cheese:

Good news on getting your numbers down!

Enjoy the festive season but my advice, speaking from lots of personal experience, is don’t get overconfident. Diabetes doesn’t care how well you have been doing, and will fight back if you give it the tools to do so. Mainly, beware the elastic effect where it tricks you into thinking those mince pies are no problem but then bites you two days later with ever increasing fasting numbers and wayward control. Been there got the scars.

Approach with extreme caution :D
