This is my first post so sorry if its not in the correct forum. All though last year i kept getting emails from some called Ian Lake Program Director of type I program of Diabetes Uk which appareny a digital platform after i had applied for the low carb program for type 1 diabetics. I was told i had been Accepted for phase two (not even sure what Phase 1 was!) and was told i would eventually get instructions on how to enrol. Well emails stating various postponements and dates came and went with the last email being in early Dec 2018 to expect instructions in mid Dec. But no email since. So having waited months and months i have clue what is going and now I think im just wasting my time. Unfortunately Ian's email address states its not monitored. Can anyone fill me in on whats going on. Thank you
I'll tag in @DCUKMod who may be able to help and maybe @Administrator too.

Diabetes UK is a different organisation to this forum which is Diabetes.co.uk confusing I know! However there is a low carb program from this forum you can sign up for. Here’s the link:

Hi @Chalky34 - My colleague, @Rachox has tagged to the T2 LC Programm which has been around a little while now. The Type 1 LC Programm is almost ready to launch, but is a little later than anticipated. It will be along soon.

Please do be patient with us.

Seem tohave heard that numerous times now Rachel. Is type 2 really feasible for type 1's to use. I dont really want to get used to type 2 and then have to change to another programe. Wouldnt an email advising of the delay as in the past to potential users been a good idea. Sorry but this has gone on for ages and its very frustrating.

My point was not regarding whether it is a type 1 or type 2 program you need (type 2 is available here and type 1 is available soon as @DCUKMod has clarified) but it appears you initially applied to DiabetesUK a separate organisation to this forum, so you need to take it up with them if you have complaints about their communication.

Edit to ask, or did you mean to type diabetes.co.uk in the first place?

Chalky - I'm sorry you are finding this frustrating, but I think there is a concern that it is better to launch with it right, than do a bodge job.

I did mention to HO that a few folks have been feeling a bit lost in it all of late, so hopefully things won't be too long now.

If you have any further queries, just ask here, or drop an email to [email protected] and it'll be picked up.

I have tried various diets, as I’m sure everyone has, in an attempt to control my diabetes type 2. I am on Novorapid, Lantus and Metformin to help control my blood glucose.

I watched Dr Michael Mosley’s “How to lose a stone in three weeks”.

I was motivated to try the “keto” diet as he suggested - LCHF. I started the next day.

Over the last six weeks I have kept to a maximum daily total of 12 “Net Carbs”.

I have lost 10kgs, but more importantly my blood glucose range is now 3.5-8mmol/L.

Having spoken to my diabetes specialist at my GP clinic I have since stopped the Novorapid at every meal (it was only 3 units anyway).

Depending on my waking glucose reading I either take no Lantus or half my daily dose.

I continue to take 1000mg of metformin daily.

I am happy to keep to my diet. Basically I start the day with three rashers of bacon and two fried eggs, but nothing else. I have tried cooking in coconut oil and avocado oil, but rapeseed oil tastes better!
For lunch I have what I call a keto-salad. Plenty of Lettuce or mixed leaves, one salad onion, half an avocado, celery, radish, cucumber, red pepper with mayonnaise and a light dressing. With that I have a choice of proteins which can be a surprisingly large portion. 8oz steak or three slices of ham, two sausages, chicken breast or anchovies/capers/olives or a large portion of fish. I can alternate with various cheeses.

In the evening I make do with a similar portion of protein with selection of cabbage, cauliflower, kale, or spinach. I make various sauces to compliment these.
I am searching for other alternative menus for when I get bored with this regime but at the moment the weight loss and the glucose control has been reward enough to keep this going for a while longer. I was 20 stone with a BMI of 37. I am now 18 stone aiming for 14/15 stone and hoping to stop all diabetic medication.

Cook the eggs in the fat that comes off the bacon.. better than anything else especially seed oil like rapeseed.

But apart from that sounds like you have this thing well under control.. Well done you!

Taking control of your health can be amazingly empowering.
