@Goonergal meant to say well done on sticking to carnivory for the month. What will you do now? I imagine cooking for one it simplified things considerably. It wouldnt be for me although I do enjoy meat.

Thanks @PenguinMum cooking for one definitely makes any dietary regime much simpler. Will continue with carnivore - was probably about 90% there anyway so will just be mostly carnivore but without the enforced strictness of the past month. I’d find it too restrictive to say that nuts, veg, low carb cakes etc. are permanently off the menu. However it did amazing things for my BG levels.

Hi all busy and hungry day today. Got lots of preps done for tomorrow’s visits and 2nd family Christmas to include guys who couldnt make the actual day combined with a birthday celebration meal. Family from S Wales say they are not snowed in so will be here and others are fairly local, including the birthday chap our eldest, and so luckily should get the large amount of the prepared food eaten! Cooper - youngest sons dog is still recovering from kennel cough but is getting there and will be along too......
Breakfast one slice bacon and egg
Lunch cheese and nuts plus two squares of 95% Lidl choc
Dinner lc chilli with garlic bread - made from a few slices of German Lidl roll from freezer and were delicious, wish they’d make them in the UK again - plus glass of red followed by one of my hotel chocolate Christmas chocs with decaf coffee with cream.
Have a good evening all and a good weekend whatever your plans.

Hi Jayney while you were away I joined the thread although I am no way as adventurous as you girls. Mostly I dip in when I can. Nice to see you again. All the best.
Welcome, in my opinion this is one of the best threads, lots of inspiration and support from some lovely people. I am no where near as adventurous as some of the very talented cooks here, working full time I need to rustle things up quickly and sometimes it’s a pain preparing two menus, however my partner is becoming quite accustomed to low carb versions of meals, he enjoyed a lovely cottage pie topped with cheesy celeriac mash last week ;)

For anyone who visits or has a Facebook account I recently discovered a lovely link to a guy who has a nice little page running with videos for some basic but tasty low carb menus, if you type “the low carb kitchen uk” into the search bar you should land on his page.

Well with a stall in weight loss (only managing 600 cals a day) I've decided to up my calories to see how it works.
Breakfast bacon, scrambled eggs and small tomato with cup of tea.
Lunch nothing, but 4 hours in Costa with my cousin in law and baby...2 pots of tea.
Dinner, my mum's old recipe for chicken curry, served with bare naked rice.
SF jelly and double cream for afters.
May have a handful of peanuts or couple of chunks of cheese to reach my calories. I feel like I haven't stopped eating haha..

I am so glad that the Welsh side of the family are able to travel. You put so much effort into it all it would be so disappointing for everyone. I like the idea of another feast after January! Hav a great time, safe journey to all.

I thought so too, I only found it by chance a week or so ago and the guy who owns the page has added 2 recipes this week. I know they are all fairly basic but sometimes that’s all that’s required as a base then we can add our own take to jazz it up a bit x

That is what I don't understand about the argument that this is a cheaper way of eating - unless one predominately fasts

Ian, I'm one of those for whom LC hasn't been more expensive, but then when I went LC we had no pasta in the house anyway. I reckon what balances us out is in order to keep the calories up, we eat much fattier cuts of meat much more often.

Like any way of eating we can keep it cheap, eat what we like, or indulge ourselves (household budget permitting). Out food budget can be generous, but I can't get excited about things like the Dr Almond bread and so on.

I also just cook for one. Agree about the cuts of meat - I'm sure the day will come when we're paying more for those too though. My food is more expensive on the whole because I ate rubbish all the time previously - however it's cheaper because I am not eating anything like the quantity I used to eat and not buying pastries, cake, chocolate, biscuits, crisps, breads etc.

I just broke my 24 hour fast with beef mince (15% fat fried in a big dollop of goose fat), half a tub of double cream, chilli flakes, cayenne pepper, garlic, celery and a small onion, topped with cheese on a bed of broccoli. I could only eat a 250g portion (quarter of the kilo pack) which amazed me because I would normally eat at least half of it in one go. I had two teaspoons of peanut butter for dessert.

I'm not looking for anything else either tonight - I'm really full. Honestly, this still amazes me.

Edit: It was actually a 750g pack, so I had even less than I thought.

Evening all, I’m really glad your Welsh contingent will make it @shelley262 I too have family in Wales but they seem to have escaped lightly. Can’t believe you still have Christmas chocolate left.
@AngiH 4 hrs in Costa? Is that a record? They are very good at letting you linger in there I’ve found.
@jayney27 Thanks for the fb link, I’ll check it later. Your blue cheese sauce sounds lovely.
@zauberflote thinking about your butter yogurt, sometimes the best things are found by accident. Not sure I’ll be trying it yet though.
I agree with thevDr Almond fans, apart from the white toasting loaf which I didn’t think much of and wouldn’t bother with again. Yours looks good @maglil55
@Goonergal I bet those few almonds felt like a treat. I shamed myself today by eating 1/2 pot almond butter while waiting for lunch. Not buying it again ( I’ve said that before though)
I had a very lazy day as I had no need to venture out apart from to the shop.
B: Boiled egg with toasted buttered and marmited bit of a Lidl roll. My new favourite breakfast.
Lunch. Garlic and lemon marinated chicken breast with buttered green beans. Chocolate chia pudding ( and the aforementioned nut butter)
Not hungry now unsurprisingly so probably wont have anything else.

The sauce is the simplest thing ever, I just melt blue cheese over a low heat and then add some cream and heat through, it’s delicious and adds so much taste to plain and simple veg or meat :)

My theory is the lower the carbs the cheaper the food bill - simple, fresh ingredients (unless one opts for premium products). It’s the substitutes/processed items - such as baking ingredients - that can add up.
Dont agree with this, am not buying specialised items, just trying to live to lower carb but it is still costing us more.
Before diagnosis lot of meals would have been noodles/rice/pasta/ with veggies and protein - now needs to be other way round, protein and veggies with noodles/rice/pasta/
If the ingredients are given in order of quantity you can all see the most expensive was last in the Before Diagnosis menu and now is first.
Of course there is a price difference.
We ate potatoes.
Baked, Mashed, Bubble and Squeak, Colcannon, Dauphinoise, Boulangerie, Pomme Anna. You get the picture? Now 2.5 kg will last a month, possibly six weeks and something else has to fill us up, usually costs more than 46p per kilo.
Yoghurt with added cream - more expensive.
2 eggs and portion of spinach - cost more than a piece of toast.
Before Diagnosis had bread with home made veg soup, now it appears I need cheese as well. Extra expense again.
Snacks! Dont get me started on the price of those. Couple of biscuits or whole packet could be 30-75p. Now snacks are cheese slices, ham, nuts, olives, crispy bacon. (If you have other suggestions please let me know) Of course they cost more. In my situation snacks are essential to make sufficient calories in a day.
This change is definitely more expensive.

Evening all. Woke up feeling rather hungry so fast ended but managed 35 hrs. Planning a couple of 48hr fasts over the next couple of weeks. I feel a weird sense of being in complete control when I fast and quite like that. Plus, today I hit 4 and a half stone weight loss. So my goal of 5 stone feels within reach and am prepared to fast to push to get to it quicker as keen to reach my target so that then I can concentrate on finding my maintain level of eating rather than keep losing.

Breakfast - peanut & chocolate protein bar with coffee
Lunch - 2 chilli & lime chicken quarters with mayo off Morrison’s hot counter
Dinner - no proper meal as worked late and then took my daughter to a big fun session at a local pool. Didn’t get home till close to 9 so too late to eat although I have snacked on a couple chunks of cheese and a handful of nuts just to curb the empty feeling swimming always gives me

I don't know if this will work. All my Dr Almond stuff arrived this morning and I've already made the Seeded loaf. Great texture and it's like eating real bread again. It isn't going to last 5 days - it will be gone by then. So easy to make. I used warm water and The dough hook to mix. Once I'd formed into a round cob shaped loaf I added more mixed seeds to the top. Cooked at fan 185C for 70 mins. Nice crisp crust.

The photo is a bit to big to post so I'm trying a link share

This is the bread I made. I'm going to buy more but one thing I would say is that is would benefit from a little salt. I also quite fancy adding yeast with inulin and proving it to see what that does although the texture is fine.

If the photo link doesn't work it does look like the photo on the web site but mine is a little darker.
The bread looks wonderful, but the cost £££ is this per loaf? Mix for six loaves? or ten?
