Funny feeling in my toe

Hi all,

Hope you are all well and good!

Bit of a weird one. I've been T1 for nearly 2 years and my control is pretty good.

For the last 2 days I have had a weird feeling on the bottom of one of my big toes. I only notice it when I have nothing on my feet at all. The best way I can describe the feeling is that it feels as if I have stepped on a small bit of cellophane and it's stuck to my foot. (You know the cellophane they use on cigarette boxes - well that stuff). When I first had it, I really expected to have somehow stepped on a small bit of it even though no-one in my house smokes. I am wondering ig this sensation could be a result of nerve damage which would be absolutely gutting considering I control my T1 really well.

Any thoughts?

Hi Joel,

Looking at your fairly recent diagnosis and (very!) impressive HbA1c I would guess that the funny feeling you are having is unlikely to be D-related. It could be due to any number of things like maybe you did tread on something, or a blister deep under the surface. To put your mind at rest I would visit your GP/D Clin but in the meantime just keep an eye on it in case there's an infection.

I am quite paranoid about c****ications and once managed to convince myself I had 'altered sensation' in a toe. My GP managed to put my mind at rest and I think it's OK now.

I hope this helps- I have no medical knowledge, only the knowledge of 10 years of D.

Best of luck!

Joel,

As this is causing you some concern then I would get your feet checked by a Podiatrist, having diabetes entitles you to a yearly check but you can self-refer yourself at anytime.

i have sometimes got this and the feeling that i have elastic bands round my big toes. i.m wondering if i am sleeping all curled up with my toes scooshed under me thats doing it.

may seem odd, but i did question my gp about this twice and eventually got to tell the diabetes dr. looked into it and checked my feet for sensitivity. fine fine according to them. but i have had diabetes for over 20 years and my control is brittle. i struggle......

i am worried about complications as we all are, but there doesn't appear to be a miracle answer

I think a lot of docs don't realise what they should be offering. To be fair to them if they are in primary care there is a lot they need to keep track of, so not that surprising.
We are entitled to a free foot check each year - there are 9 things docs are meant to check for annually in diabetics. Let me know if you want the full list. Am talking uk only, don't know about other countries.

curry or anything spicy, snakes and mosquitos!
Can I sort of hijack the thread about Podiatry please? I saw my nurse and she said there was some hard skin on my feet that needed to be seen by a podiatrist, but that I would need to find one myself that specialises in diabetes and to pay for it - anyone got any comments on this please as if I have read the previous posts I think I should have been referred by her?

Thanks

had something similar. lost feeling in tip of big toe on my wedding day (2 weeks of breaking in wedding shoes wasn't enough obviously). doctor prescribed asprin which seemed to do the trick. let your doc know but wouldn't worry, feeling gradually came back and now its as good as new
