Hi @Brian19631 . Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you’ll get a confirmation of what type diabetes you have soon.
Different types are managed differently.
Have you had any strange or unexplained symptoms over the past couple of months?
You’ve come to a good place, some very experienced diabetics here, especially type 1’s if that’s the gang you find yourself joining.

Hi Brian, Welcome to the forum. What symptoms did you have and did you go to A&E? I hope you are not feeling too badly. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago in my 40s. It’s been quite interesting since !!

I was 54 when diagnosed (58 now) and yes it's bit of shock at first but you get used to it, - well kinda. Hope your tests go well, you know where we are.

Welcome to the forum @Brian19631 It's good you went to A&E and were diagnosed. You should now get the support and treatment you need. I know it will have been a shock, but there are a lot of Type 1s on here and you will get a lot of good advice.
Just ask any questions you want to.

@Brian19631 A big hug and welcome to the gang. It's a massive shock isn't it? I was 63. Hope all your tests were painless and the dietitian gave useful advice yesterday. There are lots of things to get your head round and it does take time but you'll do it.

Welcome to the forum.
Hi I’m feeling better today it was a bit of a shock when I went to hospital. Getting looked after by All staff at my local hospital in Edinburgh. Every thing happening very quickly. I have seen all the specialists at Diabetic clinic. I’m going back on Thursday to see the dieticians and get more results. My blood levels today are 16.8 and keystone at 0.7.

I have got to monitor my carbs intake and hopefully this will help.
Cheers
Brian

Yes, carb counting will become essential as you learn to adjust your insulin. Glad numbers are looking better.

Hello @Brian19631 welcome to the forum :)

I was diagnosed 7 years ago, same as you all a bit of a whirlwind as had to go straight to hospital after seeing my GP, there’s a lot to take in so take a notepad with you to write things down, lots of experience and support here though so feel free to ask anything, positive is that you will start to feel much better as time goes on now with taking insulin.

There must be other people out there that are on anti psychotics that have developed diabetes along the way? If so what is working for you? How do you overcome the effects of feeling hungry, tired and fed up?
