I bought a whole pig a couple of times, from the local much lamented now closed butcher.
I also bought whole hoggets - well grown lambs, and bags of beef joints.
It quite spoilt me for supermarket meat, but having tried several butchers in the area and been provided with meat still dripping - sometimes I have thought that a good vet could probably get it back on its feet again, I will have to look further afield for supplies.
I did try mail order, but the first lot was left in an ordinary van over the weekend in the height of summer, the second lot came more promptly but there was no cool bag with it, and the third lot tasted funny, so I decided that it was far too risky.
