Hi all, I’m new to this. I was diagnosed type 1 in January this year (2019), I’m 21 and all new to me still trying to get control which is difficult to put into daily life routine and come to terms with it however coping, (when I remember to inject). However,

My mother has been training and has qualified in microblading which is a type of semi permanent eyebrow tattoo, of course I want to be her model, but I’m just looking for advise as don’t want this to trigger anything. I will however contact my specialist but any responses would be appreciated :) sorry to go on you’ll hear more from me as time goes on. Xx

Hi @Chloestreiow, welcome to the 'T1D club' and this site !!!

We would love to hear more about how you are managing your diabetes - insulin, diet, exercise

And sharing the tricks that help us remember to keeping injecting our insulin etc!!

So, from my my experience of 52 years on insulin, not as professional advice or opinion:

Regarding micro-blading and tattoos - I , and I gather many of us, have been taught that

we are more prone to infections - skin, dental etc and to avoid unnecessary procedures in which

infection is a risk.

I bear the scars of some unwanted infections - not fun to have or remember !!

And infection to an area such as one's face, which is not easy to hide, would be a further tragedy.

Better safe than sorry!!

Best Wishes :):):)

Hang in there.......needles and....keep learning &..Be not afraid.....not all days....Most things are
...............................finger pricks.asking questions.to ask for help...will be perfect..possible

Many T1s have successfully had tattoos. If you search for tattoo in the search box at the top of the page you’ll see some threads on it.
Having decent sugars will help reduce any infection risks, as will checking hygiene at the location giving the procedure (pretty sure your mum will take care of you). If sugars are running high and you are run down then perhaps wait a while...

Hi @Chloestreiow ,

Welcome to the forum..

I know nothing of "microblading." Of which you speak..

As a T1. Of over 42 years.
However, I have been inked. & a number of years ago was a subject to a friend training in piercing & the body mod area? (As well as tattooing.)

From my personal experince, the ink & the eyebrow piercing took well. But, good BG control is paramount, along with following the "after care" from a recomended artist..
To be honest with the piercing I should have gone with a "barbel" style at the time..? The ring was just kept my glasses frame when I was wearing them & one day I removed it.. As I mentioned no personal issue.:)

I'll tag in some T1 members I believe have been inked who may have comment, or at least say hello...

Hi @Chloestreiow. Welcome to the forum.
I have to admit that I’ve never heard of microbladding ( at 55 yrs old certain things pass me by:)).
With no knowledge it wouldn’t be right for me to offer any advice other than speak to your consultant for advice.
More importantly though.......don’t forget your insulin no matter what happens.
Look forward to you joining in with us in the forum.

I know you probably want to support your mum but it just sounds very risky........I think perhaps you already know this hence the question?

I have to say, I had never heard of microblading before today either, so asked Google about it. For anyone else as clueless as me, this seems to give a high level overview: https://www.browstyling.com/faq

Hi there, I've been t1 since 2000, 19 years , it is definitely hard work at the start to get used to everything and every day is a learning curve. I have 7 tattoos, 1 at the base and 1 at the top of my back, both forarems and my right thumb have tatts on. I luckily had no issues with healing, I stuck to the after care as advised. 2 of the tattoos ate medical alert ones for diabetes (1 on each forearm). If ever in doubt talk to your diabetes team :) :)

Kelly.

Microblading is essentially a wound in your skin. You can definitely have it done, but I would recommend consistently in range BGL for a few weeks before and certainly afterwards whilst healing. Follow all aftercare guidelines and you'll be just grand.

I was already covered in tatts before being diagnosed with type 1 and refuse to let my emo pancreas stop me from being even more covered! :D

People telling me how to control my diabetes. My health. Isms. People walking their dogs off leads in illegal areas. Meat that bleeds. Late buses.
I have tats and have had various other things done. If you really think your mum has her art down then there is no reason why you should not let her do it to you. Just get straight to the Doctor at any sign of infection. Never let Diabetes stop you.

Hi @Janet shade
Are your blood levels high? Are you feeling unwell? If in the UK call 111 for advice.

Would you like this moved to your own thread?
