My eye specialist (rather grumpy, over worked but very very good) suggested a way to help the horrible dry scratchy eye problem that I had had for years. I’d used just about every eye drop/gel version on the market with no lasting results.
He told me that as one gets older, the glands in the eyelids (along the inside of the eyelash edges of the eye) tend to be blocked so the eye is no longer moisturized. If you think of small children with their lovely luminous eyes - well that’s when the system works properly.
He told me to first warm the eyes either with a clean flannel or cotton wool pads that have been warmed with hot water. Then take a q tip and press along the eye lash line, both top and bottom. Not too hard, no need to hurt your eyes. If you happen to stick the q tip in your eye, don’t give up. You’ll get better with practice!
He told me that he had given this advice to his SIL, who later called him to ask whether she had to keep doing this to make the glands work. His answer was a grumpy ‘Duh!’ In other words yes. It does work and gets easier and more effective after a few days. It doesn’t promise toddler luminosity but it is more effective than drops or gel from the pharmacy.
