Hello All ,
My recent hba1c test was 80 . I had been taking Alogliptin . My diabetic nurse changed my meds to gliclazide , and issued me with a glucose test kit .i have been testing on waking and before and after meals . I ate little carbs drank lots of water and last night after my evening meal I was 6.1 . I’ve just tested when I got up and have a level of 19.1 . Why am I getting such high levels first thing after fasting all night ? Can anyone offer advice on this . Thanks in advance .

Have you heard of the Dawn phenomenon https://www.diabetes.co.uk/blood-glucose/dawn-phenomenon.html
The liver releases stored glucose into the blood stream but I doubt that can explain your very high morning levels. Maybe another visit to your DN to see if your meds need adjusting, I would also be looking at my diet to see if I could reduce carbohydrates further.
Here's some info we give to new members you may find it useful

WIFI, Mobile phones. Smart metres... in fact anything 'smart'
Silly question but I'm going to ask it...
Did you wash and dry your hands before testing?
