Early diagnosis is an HbA1c of 48, (6.5%) the lowest HbA1c we can have when first diagnosed. I imagine once it is above something around 55 to 60 or more, it is not very early. Sometimes there are clear physical symptoms with a later diagnosis, such as weight gain, uncontrollable thirst, frequent peeing, tiredness, signs of complications such as blurry eyes and pins/needles/tingling in feet and or hands.
What was your HbA1c (the test they use to diagnose us). If you don't know, you need to find out. You can ask the receptionist for print outs, to which you are entitled. If you live in England your surgery may put test results on line as they were asked to do 3 years ago. You can also ask if this service is available and how to register for it.
Thanks, don’t have access to any of that information yet just what I’ve mentioned , I’ve never had any real symptoms maybe the thirst thing has come and gone in hindsight, I do a physical job though so always put it down to that!
OK, so your first job is to find out. Numbers are important. You need to know where you are starting from so you can work out where you are going from now on!
Your second job is to consider buying a blood glucose meter as this will help enormously if you want to control this disease. We can help you use this to your best advantage. I do urge you to get one.
Have you been given any medication, if so which ones?
I was a T2 for quite some time, possibly a couple of years. A specialist had checked my HbA1c and it came back prediabetic, but neglected to tell me. I was diagnosed with finger prick tests (18, 20's....), so when my first HbA1c was done I'd already implemented a diet change. That first HbA1c was 75, but I had been significantly higher before that. Never will know just what I topped out as. Couple of weeks later my HbA1c came back as 42 (prediabetic), and I've been in the lower to mid thirties ever since.Hi there was diagnosed yesterday and told I could of had it for some time!
Was wondering what kinda time scales other people had been diagnosed in? And what classes as early / late diagnosis?

My question is I’ve not been given a measurement of carbs to have, Ive near enough cut them out except for either 2 small gf toast a day or jacket potato or small potatoes. Do you literally weigh every carb?
