Is it safe to take viagra or medication like it, ever since I was diagnosed and started taking insulin, I've had troubles with erectile dysfunction. At first it wasn't really that bad, but it's been getting worse and worse, I have an appointment in three weeks and I'll definitely bring it up with my doctor but date night is coming up soon and I want to be prepared.

Tl:dr is it safe to take Viagra with t1?

Yes it is safe to take viagra with type 1. Type 1 diabetes isn't a contraindication to viagra, you should check whether you have any other contraindications.

I'm assuming you're newly diagnosed. What is your blood sugar control looking like? High blood sugar can cause issues with the nerves in the penis, and even blood supply to the penis, so erections may not happen if you're not euglycaemic.

Not a mine of information on this one but a few things I would say are......
Viagra is a prescription drug and should be prescribed by a GP. Due to the nature of it's use unscrupulous people make viagra substitutes readily available.
Diabetes alone shouldn't necessarily cause ED.
Poor blood sugar control may well cause problems. How is your control?
High sugars as well as low sugars can cause ED, but in slightly different ways.
Stresss alone is a major factor, ultimately stress of ED only compounds the issue.
Hope this helps a little.
Good luck on both fronts.

Point one: I do understand Viagra is a prescription medication, and I have taken efforts to identify official and safe sources more on this below.

Point two: I was diagnosed on 3/8/2017 so I would say in perspective I am new to this, perhaps I chose the wrong boards.

Point three: I understand diabetes does not alone cause ed, but it may be contributive. That being said I want to discuss this with my doctor considering I really don't know.

Point four: I would say I take all the medication I'm given and told to take, I was prior relatively healthy. My diet has been adjusted to what my doctor calls "Friendly" food, but most of it tastes like cardboard.

Point five: Stress is extremely prevalent in my life and I had no clue, do you have more information on this?! I would never have thought about that definitely a biggy, thank you I'll bring it up.

Point six: As to point one above, I scoured the Internet for a source of information on pde5 inhibitor's and so far between the gunk of confusing to read gabldeygook I've found this website https://rxleaks.com/best-ed-pills-non-prescription-ultimate-guide-buying-impotence-products : Now I've read through about seventy-five percent of whats there and so far it's been a guide of sorts, all the information in terms of what I was looking for is there. That being said I am not completely sure the information there is perfect and if you want to check it out to verify that would help greatly. Any suggestions are welcome as like I said above I am relatively new to all of this; I don't know what my body is doing and I don't know how I will respond to the medication, but I'm open to learn. I'm 31 years old and I plan on living for a good chunk longer. Sorry for the rambling my thoughts sometimes get jumbled up, hopefully you get the gist of it.

I'd concur with @therower on this one. As a relatively newly diagnosed T1, you are extremely unlikely to suffer ED as a result of diabetes. This is mainly due to the issues relating to diabetic ED are down to nerve damage and blood flow problems, and it's extremely unlikely that you have these after three months diagnosed, and likely less than a year with symptoms.

As was mentioned, stress can play a big part, but so can the psychological effects of being diagnosed with T1 and worrying about ED, which in itself can cause ED, without there being any physical reason for it.

So, by all means, do what you feel you need to, but be aware that the root cause is unlikely to be physical.

I had a similar experience, Gabe. When I was first diagnosed my doc said now you have diabetes it can effect erections. This has plagued my mind ever since. I know it's false for me, as I can function fine when watching stimulating video. Which we have done together and all has been good.

But many times it's simply my mind doubting myself, which in turn results in non-performance. I think I won't get an erection and thusly I don't get an erection. It's infuriating and I don't know how to stop myself doing this!!

Viagra works though. I guess a placebo would work for me. It does bring on the flush which can give me headaches.

I appreciate it'snot what you're probably thinking about at the time, but what is your blood pressure like when you have this Viagra induced headache?

All things that hurt (emotional and physical)
Awful headaches with Viagra but Cialis taken before bed and I get no headache at all the following day. You also have a 36 hour window with Cialis opposed to just 4 with Viagra so you don't have to "Military Plan" for engagement with the other side!!

Interesting question. I have no idea :)
I do know my normal blood pressure is very good (it was taken last week and all is fine), though I cannot remember the numbers.

It actually seems random. I took one this weekend and had no issues at all. I might be how I feel at the time determines if I get a headache or not.

Of course, it could depend on many or few factors, but if it has been enough for you to associate taking Viagra with your headaches, it could be useful to investigate your casual association.

If you have a BP monitor, it only takes a moment, although I do concede it's not the most romantic thing to do.

I got my T2 diagnose when I went to the doctor with ED. Viagra and the like did not work for me. However, with a low carb diet, fasting and exercise, I was able to bring my glucose levels down to non diabetic levels, and my dysfunction was reversed. Motivation works in mysterious ways!

Yes I understand that, but my point is that better controlled glucose levels can lead to diminished dysfunction. That should hold for a T1 as well, no?

Hi, I'm interested in your ed reversal. How are things now & when you say you ate low carb do you mean keto or just reduced carb intake in general? Thanks
