We were trying to work out what you were talking about though, it doesn’t seem to be this site diabetes.CO.uk as you thought but another one diabetes.ORG.uk which is comparatively higher carb
It was this site...it comes under food.it was just 2 many carbs for me personally in the listing..anyhow doesn't matter, very happy with keto now...have a fab day....x

I hope type1s and type2s have answered your query.
Until I joined this forum I was told fruit and veg was good.
Ive discovered that as an underactive active Thyroid sufferer I should avoid uncooked veg, especially broccoli and cauliflower. I'm careful with some lettuce types and Rocket. Im careful with carbs which include fruits for fatty liver and find fatty protein a great end of the day food to prevent 'liver dumping'.
We are all student where diabetes is concerned. No one person knows everything.
I'm still listening and will see how these suggestions affect ME.
We are all different.
But Yes fruit can affect our bgs.
I eat fruit in small portions and mainly to ensure a balanced diet but I could equally stop it if my liver needed me to.

Hi,

The meter is your guide.. ;)

The chap I mentioned in the earlier post had also been told by his HCPs not to test? (Though he still had strips on prescription.)
He was advised his A1c was the only indication he needed regarding overal managment... o_O:banghead::banghead:

Good afternoon "Jaylee"
I was told by my Doctor about 20 years ago NOT TO TEST - he said that testing only causes me to worry about my BS levels and I can do nothing about it - at that time I was on tablets (about 15 per day) and my BS was all over the place and I had frequent night time Hypos.

I started Insulin about 7 years ago and now test my fasting BS every morning and adjust my Insulin according to my BS reading plus what I have planned to do that day. Hypos are now a thing of the past and my fasting BS is seldom above 7 - it is usually between 4.3 and 5.9

I only have meals twice a day and eat virtually no carbs but I do snack on Bananas, Peach, Pears, Nuts and I have an Orange for breakfast along with Kippers, fried Tomatoes & Mushrooms. I avoid Apples because of the high sugar content.

That’s an excuse not to fund testing equipment and for the vast majority of people simply not true. It is his ignorance that he believed that you could do nothing about it. You can. By eating fewer carbs or extending time between meals or by exercise.

Bananas have more sugar than apples.

Hi, i don't have a meter, i haven't needed one, i haven't been eating fruit for 2 years and have a low carb lifestyle...seems to work...this forum tells lies about what is good for us to eat...i have written to them but no reply...i'm now going back to keto....x

Hello Ruby
You can get a meter for FREE from a number of different manufacturers - I recommend testing BEFORE you eat every morning.
But your meter only tells you your BS at that moment in time - what you do about it is YOUR CHOICE.

You NEED to control your DIET and MEDICATION according to how you think your day is going to pan out. If you are having a RELAXING day you need either less food or less medication - the converse is also true.

Generally the information given on this Forum is from what people have found what works for THEM - but we are all DIFFERENT and what works for ME might not work for YOU.

Thank you "HSSS"

I agree - I now vary my Insulin according to my fasting BS reading and my plans for the days activity.

I actually meant you could have had control before insulin if he had understood testing and other methods of control beyond medication.

Hello again HSSS

Before I started the LCHF programme I used to base my meals around CARBS as that was the NHS recommendation - consequently I ended up on Insulin.
The LCHF diet recommends cheese and full cream milk, plenty of meat and fats. So for breakfast I ate Bacom & Eggs with one slice of bread - lovely! I would snack on cheese and avoided all fruits (I got problems with constipation).

Next I got Prostate Cancer and was told by the "Specialist" to avoid red meat; avoid cheese & milk; - eat plenty of FRUIT; snack on GRAPES and BANANAS; eat OILY FISH and CHICKEN & TURKEY; eat loads of KAYLE and other GREENS.

After having 37 doses of Radiotherapy and following the "Specialists" diet my PSA has come down to 9.75 I still need to get it down to 6.5 or less. After that I can return to my LCHF diet and reduce my fruit intake.

Life was easier when I just had Type 2 Diabetes, Neuroputhy, and Arthritis; but when you add another medical problem into the mix, such as Prostate Cancer, you have to adjust your Diet and exercise.

Some ladies on this Forum have MULTIPLE problems - thankfully I have just a few.

It is very tough when multipal health problems need a specific diet, on top of type2.
A juggling ball game.
Myself I'm concentrating on weight loss as longevity is my prime aim. However I'm heavily overweight which doesn't help numerous ailments or risks. So research states currently.
I'm not going to see the back of my type2 yet but I'm going to try and rid it, eventually. If research is correct.
I should eventually reach my fat making level in it's tracks. If I live long enough. Which is always my plan too.

My sugars have risen lately and I eat a lot of fruit especially in the summer. My question is does the sugar in fruit affect my levels even though it is a ‘good’ sugar?
If this is spare there a difference between which fruits can be eaten freely?

Hi there, here's a couple of links regarding nutritional value in fruits : edited to say. or for anyone else, as plenty of links on google.

My favourite fruit is raspberries and I have 2 bushes in my garden.

Good morning "Ickihun"
After reading your history I wonder what I am complaining about.

I have lived relatively illness free (except for a few broken bones) all of my 77 years. After going on the LCHF diet about 4 years ago my Insulin useage came down from 100 units per day to 58 units per day - since Prostate Cancer treatment it has crept up to about 60 to 64 units per day. However, I started the LCHF diet at 85 kilos and today I am still 85 kilos. Never lost an ounce. Perhaps I eat too much.

One of the problems of getting older is that your health goes downhill whatever you do. At one time I seldom saw a Doctor - now the reception staff at the Surgery and Hospital call me by my Christian name BEFORE I mention who I am.

Your experience and knowledge is a great blessing to others on this forum when you post.

Thank you.
