Insulin. (Takes over my life)
Just asked for the doctor that is taking care of me while I'm here to test me for LADA because apparently they didn't even start the tests.
Had to get 20 units of humalog and 24 units of tresiba. As my blood sugar was 23.6 and the nurse was trying to figure out what could have made my sugar spike that high. She wrote a note for the doctor and got extra insulin, and the fluids that the nurses had to start to administer again isn't working that well. But the truth is, I'm starting to feel a bit better. But not enough to go home and I'd rather figure out with the help of doctors what is wrong with me. Because the emergency doctors couldn't even figure it out. I was supposedly supposed to go home yesterday, but now that I had to have fluids again they don't want to let me go. And the doctor wants me to go home tomorrow, if my blood sugars are stable enough. But the nurse wants me to stay until I figure out everything and she's going to tell the doctor. And the doctor said to me yesterday that my blood sugars were stable, but 28.7 is stable, huh? I don't understand some doctors. But hopefully I'll be able to go home soon.

Eliza is this a consultant with a specialism in diabetes making these declarations? Youe 28.7 might be stable, but whether it is a safe living level could be a whole different conversation, in my mind.

If your doctor is not a specialist in diabetes, please do ask to see the diabetes team. There will be one in your hospital, given the eye-wateringly high percentages of hospital inpatients who live with diabetes, my local hospitals anyway.

If you have the Doctor's name, you should be able to look him/her up on the Hospital's website. if they aren't listed there (not all are; usually only the more sention members of staff feature, usually), you should be able to find then on the General Medical Council Register: https://webcache.gmc-uk.org/gmclrmp...EApplet=GMC+WEB+Health+Provider+Search+Applet

Stable at just below 30? Seriously? That is just some pretty poor practice there imo.

Glad you feel a little better, I hope you can get the tests done and some proper diagnosis made and some proper treatment to go with it. You've been through enough already, good luck.

You need a second opinion from a diabetic consultants team before you leave. I’m shocked they think 28 is ok to send you home when no one knows what the actual problem is.

Did they do the type 1 LADA tests for GAD antibodies and c peptide when you asked ?

Why in heavens name do they think anything above even 7 is stable I have no idea! You should be with the specialists and getting these tests done, seems like they just want to fast track you out of there and be done with the consequences. Lunacy.

I hope you get answers before they kick you back out... Your nurse has the right idea. And high bloodsugars labeled as stable might be just that; steady, no peaks and dips. Which still is far, far from a good thing. Try to stay there until all tests are run!

Good luck,
Jo

Nope. The nurse that wrote the note said the doctor overlooked it. So now they want to test me for Gastroparesis. And I see the diabetes team tomorrow. So hopefully they know what to do.
