Just had my yearly eye screening and even though i have lost some weight (1.5stone)
My nurse found 2 tiny, tiny, tiny white speks that concerned her.

She says its nothing to worry about as you can take medication and the eye will heal up at this stage, but we need to keep an EYE on it.

Anybody else had this

Seriously worried even though she says " dont worry" im worried

Thanks

No experience of this as I have my first D eye test tomorrow. However, I understand your worry and I hope someone will be able to give you some reassurance.

Are you in the UK @steveis36 ? The usual procedure is that you get eye drops to dilate your pupils, a technician takes photographs of your retinas and they are sent off for assessment and you get a letter informing you of the result. I believe some people get their results direct from an optician but I haven't heard of anyone getting results from a nurse.

Hi steveis36,
Like Mr Pot I have had a diabetic retinopathy exam and it was done by a specialist, not just the GP practice's DSN. Also the pictures were sent off for analysis, so I did not get the all-clear for almost 2 weeks.

However, some others have sad that at least in their cases, reducing the BG as evidenced by Hba1c appears to have at least partially reversed Diabetic Retinopathy. - So get those BG levels under control!

First of all - don’t panic! I know, I know, easier said than done, but I got similar news at the optician earlier this year, he found fluid behind my eye, but reassured me there was no diabetic damage to be seen, but he was writing to my gp to see if my diabetic screening could be brought forward, in the end it wasn’t, but they also picked up the fluid and I received the most useless letter ever on a Saturday morning telling me ‘diabetic changes had been found’ and of course there was no one to call to question it and bring me back off the ceiling! Luckily I already had an appointment with the eye hospital the following Tuesday, so took my results letter with me and the doctor said she would cancel that referral as she was doing all the tests that day, anyway, long story short, no diabetic damage, my eyes are pretty healthy, fluid likely caused by stress, will most likely reabsorb by itself but I am under the surveillance branch (eye hospital) until it clears up and then I’ll go back to regular screening. It’s not always bad news and they are aiming for prevention of problems with regular screening.

It does seem odd the nurse told you this though, I questioned the nurse taking my photos at my last screening and couldn’t get a peep out of him!

Yeah im in uk
I think i should of not asked as im worried.
She said it will go off for assessment then i will get a letter (like u said)

But i was just asking what are u looking for and she was explaining and then showed me these 2 tiny, tiny, tiny white dots.

She said its notjing to worry about, they may call me in for a 3d scan but my eye may heal but if not i will be put on medication.

Even though its only in left eye yeah im worried to hell as i make a liveing as a artist so my eye sight is even more important than every day people.

My bloods are around 6.8 to 10 may be 11mmol but i usually know what ive had to have that spike.

However i had a total pig out a few weeks ago and even sleeped on it which made my bloods go up to 17mmol on one reader and 19mmol on other.

The crazy thing is ive lost 2stone and my bgs have come down and my eyes were ok.
So to have this after my hard work makes me reach for the cake lol(just kidding)

Difficult to do but try to forget about it until you get the letter. When the photographs are sent away they are examined on large high resolution monitors by specially trained staff, a quick look by a nurse doesn't sound very reliable.

Got the letter this morning for appointment for 3d scan of eye at hospital as they found diabetic maculopathy in left eye.

#worried!

Same for me. I'm keen to see my next yrs eye test results. I've made a huge change to my weight but sugar damage isn't governed by your BMI. It's due to NOT burning up the sugar or NOT producing it, at all.

Im hopeing its due to stress, as ive been stressed out for months and just wore out.

That’s what it was that caused mine (surprising as my control has been lacking for many years), when I had the full MOT at the eye hospital I was told my eyes are healthy front and back, no signs of retinopathy, but a tiny bit of fluid beside my macula and a fatty deposit elsewhere (my eyes were dilated at the time - I had no chance of seeing the scan on the screen!), she was confident the fluid will reabsorb on its own but it may take months and the fatty deposit may take years. I was advised to carry on doing what I am doing control wise and not sweat the odd high number and it should fix itself. Fingers crossed for a similar outcome for you.

Getting your bgs good is the best thing for your eye health. Oh and for stress and tiredness.
How are your bgs typically?
