I haven’t been to see any diabetic specialist. I see mention on posts about diabetic consultants and am embarrassed to say I don’t know they existed!
I was told my only option was a referral to an education class where I was advised they couldn’t answer my questions.
The dietician didn’t show for our class and the nurse delivering the class told me diabetic clinic would not accept my referral as I need to be on at least three medicines for diabetes to qualify for referral.
Is this true or is it different for each area?
I spoke to GP who says he can only refer me to education class as this is local process.
I spoke to a nurse in diabetic clinic when I was last there for my diabetic eye test I have diabetic rheinophy (spelling) and she said because I have had 2/3 of my pancreas removed due to cancer I need my cancer team to refer me to specialist diabetic clinician. Cancer team won’t refer me!
So I am told loose weight and all my diabetes will disappear despite my losing weight and sugar levels keep going higher.
The monthly treatment I have for cancer causes spikes and dips in glucose levels so the manufacturer (as I couldn’t get help anywhere else) told me buy a glucose testing strip and monitor my bloods when injection due (as would be at lowest) and after injection (as would be at highest) and see how low and high I actually go then report back to GP!
Anyone else have similar issues or any advice they can offer?
I have 1.5 stone to lose so as to be perfect weight and my BMI is 26 when ideally should be 24 maximum (I don’t feel that is too far out am I delusional?)
I don’t exercise much and can often spend days in bed due to arthritis, cancer and other conditions I have. It’s hard to distinguish one conditions symptoms from another but my cancer although advanced is slow growing and well controlled!
