Autoimmune Issues with Type 1

Is there anyone out there with other autoimmune issues along with type 1? I also have Hashimoto's Disease (Hypothyroidism) - essentially my body attacking my thyroid (although the thyroid was diagnosed long before the T1). Just wondering if anyone has any input on how to deal with the weight issues - double unwelcome whammy! Or any other autoimmune diseases along
with type 1?

Impi, I'm not T1, and much to my Endo's astonishment (by way of my family history), nor do I have any diagnosed autoimmune (AI) conditions. It is, however, fairly well accepted that once a person has one AI diagnosis, they are more likely than your average man in the street to be diagnosed with another.

Is your Hashi's well controlled with treatment, and getting the thyroid levels right can improve any chance of trimming up, if that's what you want to do.

Hi Impi

Like yourself I suffer from various autoimmune diseases. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Colitis, Underactive Thryoid as well as T1.

Managing is a challenge. I make use of the various Specialist Nurses I have access to. If I can be of any help please get in touch.

I have type 1, Coeliac disease,Oral Lichen Planus and other medical conditions, including Osteoporosis. Getting a few more auto immune condition's can go hand in hand with having type 1 diabetes.
Wishing you good health and happiness for 2020 :)

Only got type 1 but the majority of my type 1 pub group have coeliac disease and my sister although not type 1 has some form of hypothyroidism. We don;t really know what triggers these conditions but diet seems to play in a magor role in helping dampening inflammation, most obviously in the case of coeliac. When were you diagnosed with your conditions?

Hi, I have type 1 (50 years now) and also extensive vitiligo and hypothyroidism. I sometime also get low levels of cortisol so am regularly tested for Addisons but have not been low enough for medication. I am always juggling diets but really now try to aim for low carb foods so that bg remains stable. I use to get really tired when I was working but just try to stay as well as possible now.

I have hypothyroidism, lichen sclerosus (don't google it if you're not familiar!) psoriasis, I'm not sure if raynaud's is considered to be autoimmune but I'm waiting for a diagnosis for that, and I think I have something else wrong with me but getting nowhere with getting a diagnosis. I have a family history of autoimmune conditions so more will probably crop up at some point.
Edited to say: I was told several years ago I had the antibodies for celiac disease but I'm not really sure what that means, maybe I will get that at some point?

Hi Impi. Just seen your post, yes I too have vitiligo, Hashimotos and for the last 18months T1 LADA. I lost 3 stone 18 months ago after switching my Levothyroxine to before bed and I finish eating and only drink water after 8pm (important to stick to this) I paid to see an endo who told me this is based on a study in the US where everyone improved. My TSH went from 7 to 1.5 in 2 months, I lost most of the weight very quickly then slowly lost another stone. I had previously struggled for three years. The theory is that for many people taking Levo in the morning just doesn't give the tablet enough time to work as later you are eating and drinking so it passes through you. if you take it before bed 10.30pm onwards it has all night in a fairly empty stomach. It has certainly worked incredibly well for me, my dad (also Hashi's) and a family friend. Worth a try?
