This forum has helped me be a healthier, fitter, slimmer person. I don't know where I would be without everybody's help

Unkind people, failure to take personal responsibility.
This community has quite literally been a catalyst for re-charting the course of my life. Before I registered, started to learn and change my doc said I would most likely be dead 10 years earlier than the average UK male. Now he says I am likely to have shifted that prognosis in the other direction to 10 years more than the average UK male. You my friends have played a significant part in this turn around. Thank you:)

I was doing the Michael Moseley 8 week diet, I was testing and committed to a fairly low carb diet for life before I found you guys. But you have shown me how best to do LCHF and the importance of testing v regularly. I hope that the three monthly blood tests that I had today show what I expect, i.e. that all my metabolic markers are a lot better than Feb. I may only have been posting for a few days, but you guys have been informative and inspirational.

I was at my absolutely lowest and had been on a massive path of destruction when I was refused by my GP to sign off on my medical certificate for my driving licence.
Thats when I found this awesome forum. It put me back on track to what I knew worked but didn't have a name for.
I had low carbed without realizing it when I was placed on insulin 3 odd years ago. I had actually had a heart attack in Jan 2013 just 5 days before I was supposed to have surgery for breast cancer. Surgery never happened! However back then my diet and lifestyle changed.
A relationship break down after 22years, the loss of my job, chronic pain, then the loss of my father and I was back to my carb loving self and refused to test or take any insulin.
That last piece of independence, my licence was the thing that kicked me back to sanity. Not even my new partner was able to do that.
So now 14 weeks later, low carbing and very rarely cheating, I am 7 kg lighter, off gliclazide, taking my insulin regularly, exercising 4-5 days a week and getting numbers between 4.5 and 9.2 post meal on a regular basis. Both my GP and new diabetes Specialist are pleased with my turn around. My partner though not diabetic has joined me low carbing with awesome results in weight loss and other medical issues.
I may not post frequently but I read voraciously nearly everything that is posted and/or linked. I cant thank members here enough for the advice and wisdom that they pass on so freely. It truly is awe inspiring!

I am on the LCHF road - I am stumbling now and then but still getting back up and continuing - I am making progress in lowering my BG levels, weight I am going to do the scales this weekend as I only do them now and then, but do plan on getting into a weekly stand on the scales and see what is happening. I have learnt far more here than at my doctors, it is a learning curve and a change in life style - I wanted it all to happen right now but have had to realise it is all a personal journey that takes as long as it takes and I try and take all the tiny positive steps and recognise I am changing bit by bit and I will get there if I just keep at it. You all help with words of encouragement and great advice. Thank you all and please don't stop.

This forum has quite literally changed my life.

Thanks to this forum and the advice I received on here I am now working with a new consultant and diabetic team, have learned how to carb count, reduced my hba1c from 119 to 53 in 7 or 8 months and I am now expecting my first baby.

I cannot express my gratitude to everyone on here for helping me.

Thank you all ☺

I know it's no longer diabetes week but I just want to add how happy I am now I've discovered this forum. My meter testing was at one stage showing bg 22.5. This morning it is showing bg 6.7.
My amateur attempt of the lchf diet and now calorie watching too. I'm happy to say I feel healthier and a bit lighter. (weighing myself today at boots)
I think just the support and addition knowledge empowers me in the fight with type 2 diabetes with my other disorders.
Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who participates here!
I didn't lose any weight but was hopeful. However my bgs are steadier, especially fbgs and less insulin needed to do so. Thank you. Forum. ♡♥♡

This forum has helped me avoid a diabetes diagnosis. It's an infinite, excellent, kind resource which provides non-judgmental information. Please, continue forever. There are so many diabetics, pre-diabetics and potential diabetics out there who need the help.

I am acutely aware this forum has been so helpful for me in so many ways! It's helped me to accept that things just had to change.

So, from someone who's been obese (yet remarkably healthy other than this T2 business) since the age of 13 with just a few years in my 20s at overweight and disinclined to exercise always, though always been pretty active, I have turned into someone totally different.

As of this morning, I am 1lb off my original target weight and about to reset that for another half stone just to be slap bang in the middle of the BMI range for healthy weight for me and will re-adjust that if it's clear I've gone too far..

I am now happy with my new ways of eating and gone through all the psychological stuff of feeling hard done to and deprived of carbs. I now no longer even like the taste of sugary stuff in more than miniscule amounts and with something savoury afterwards to take the taste away.. Mind you, I've not tested dark chocolate yet to see if I now like that.

For now, my blood sugars are behaving themselves very nicely.

As for my new-found love of distance walking... 7 - 10 miles a day is the new norm and I get antsy when I've not walked much all day.

I'm recognising this is a life-long marathon, not a quick fix, and I always was better at gentle long haul stuff, than bursts of energy then resting on my laurels.

Thank you to all for the support!

Diabetes.co.uk has had a life changing impact on my life.

I was lost and now on a path to a better, healthier me. Despite the pre diabetes.

I feel more confident being pre diabetic, despite still making silly mistakes.

I am not looking for food cheats, or basically I am no longer lying to myself that a few carbs here and there is fine. I am still doing this, but less and less thanks to the people on this forum keeping an eye on me.

I would say that gps should be directing people newly diagnosed with pre diabetes especially to this forum, as the quality of advice is second to none and most importantly, nothing of any note was offered to me, to spell out the urgency and importance. It was just a term.

The information and advise from people living with the condition, does not require me to second guess the advice. I have chosen to take a complete leap of faith in the people on this forum and am feeling the love every day.

Thank you forum members

agree fully.

woefully provided for at DX,,as far too many are.

the Forum HAS been the lifeline so many seem to need (was for me)
scandalous how it's almost ignored by HCP..

if i ruled the world..THIS would the FIRST place i pointed any T2 towards.

( i say T2 as that is me..but it also applies to ALL diabetics i think, pre T2, T1, lada or otherwise.)

I must add my voice to the sentiments expressed by contributors as my day is not complete without visiting the site as there is always something new to learn from the experience of members of the family (forum). I do recommend the Forum to friends where they would find all they need to know and also where will readily receive support. Thank you all including our Moderators.

I want to add my own piece as well - diagnosed T2D in April 2019, I found the forum right away and it has been so so helpful in every way for me - initially visited very frequently, recently work has been very pressured and not been on every day, but have just had a set of wonderful results placing me firmly in remission from T2D.....the forum has been instrumental in helping me achieve the goal and I intend to stay around for a while yet. I have also found a lot of new information particularly regarding lipid metabolism which has changed my thinking as a doctor myself.......and I talk to my own patients who are diabetic a lot about their own journeys........
My colleagues think my weight loss on LCHF has been amazing - I try to encourage them all to optimise their own diets as it is really not that difficult!! Thank you diabetes.co.uk.....I refer many to the site!!

This forum has been a goldmine of information for me. Not just for T2DM, but also related problems like obesity, cholesterol etc. The experience and advice of people in a similar position is invaluable.

The rest of the site is excellent too with a lot of information well presented. What initially brought be here was wanting a nice bookmarked page with normal and diabetic blood glucose and roughly what HbA1c they corresponded to. It also comes up on other google searches I’ve done eg wanting to know about vitamin D and diabetes.
