Taking things seriously, checking my bloods a lot.
restyle pre meals/morning. 7.5 mmol

Watched The game Changers and wend Vegan overnight after years on a high fat high protein, veto yoyo diet lifestyle.
20kg overweight.

Plant based its tricky to keep cars low, but im loosing weight (4kg past 30 days ).

After some meals my BG reaches 11 highest I have seen is 16 say 15 minutes after eating. 2 hours after my bloods are back down to the 7-8 level.

my question is are spike ( short term ) an issue as long as it recovers, or am I doing it all wrong?

how high is too high even for a short time?

any and all advice is welcome.

The spike should be kept within the 2 mmol range 2 hours AFTER your first bite / reading

I recommend you read www.bloodsugar101.com for information on the damage caused by raised blood glucose, and what those damaging levels are.

personally, I would not be willing to experience levels of 11 or more as often as you are. Actually, I would want to avoid them completely.

can you explain what you mean by this:

a high fat high protein, veto yoyo diet lifestyle.

Perhaps you’d like to look at one of these

or watch the magic pill or fixing dad on Netflix for some balance to the argument.

as to levels 7-8 as a starting point is a bit too high really. And rises of up to 11 or even 16 means you aren’t able to cope with the glucose (carbs) you are putting into your body. As mike says no more than an extra 2mmol after 2 hrs is one measure. Another is under 7.8 at 2 hrs.

In the intervening time? Well even non diabetics spike in that period to some extent but have the ability to reign it back in quickly. Is it ideal to be going that high regularly? I’d say not and prefer to limit any spike as best possible. I’m not sure there’s much in the way of research to back up opinions regarding this as libre etc are relatively new in terms of understanding term outcomes when looking at time in range (a type 1 concept). It seems reasonable to keep spikes down to me.

My husbands a vegetarian, his trick is exercise every day and losing weight. And he takes Metformin. He doesn't try to low carb, just keeps in check his junk food eating, but he still likes some junk food which is why he probably will stay on metformin, luckily he is one that it doesn't bother.

Here is some vegan low carb recipe sites
