Please, for the love of god, someone help me with how to get rid of the awful itching and burning that I have experienced in the lead up to and just after being diagnosed?

Cream does not work. Natural yoghurt doesn’t work. Baby soap/gels do not work.

It is driving me insane and I have scratched so much that I think I’ve torn my skin which never heals as I’m always scratching!

It’s getting to the point where it’s driving me to tears and I just need som advice on how to deal with it/make it go away.

Thank you in advance.

I'm so sorry, thrush is awful!
It feeds on sugar, which is in your pee when your blood glucose goes above around 11 (may vary a bit for different people).

For me, it went away as soon as I got my blood sugars lower. In the mean time I found washing with lukewarm water after peeing (let the water do the work, don't rub!) and using fungal killing creams applied topical worked best. Use cotton underwear.

How are you managing your diabetes? Do you use a meter to see what's happening? I'll include a link to the info sheet we like to offer new members, it may be useful in getting your numbers down: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/basic-information-for-newly-diagnosed-diabetics.26870/

Good luck, hope you'll get rid of it soon!

For several years being undiagnosed T2 i suffered with very nasty infection from thrush front to back side too.I used germaloids ointment to numb the whole area to releave the itch and pain.Thankfully after a month on metformin the sugar was no longer so high so not peeing high sugar out it cleared up.So I can sympathize with you , I also smothered down below with talc , lanacane do one , from some one who's tried everything hope this helps.

You may find that once bs is lower it goes. I suffered over and over and had a thrushy layer on the back if my tongue. I had no idea it was a symptom. Now very definitely all gone. Phew.

Agree with the above. Get your blood sugars under control ( https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html might help, it's my own little quick-start guide ), and try Canesten's cream & "torpedo" shaped pill. Once your blood sugars are down it shouldn't come back. Wear cotton underwear, it breathes better than synthetics, and sleeping in the buff for the same reason should keep things from getting worse.

I had systemic candidiasis and went on a course of anti fungal tablets 'fluconazole' for 3 months - all good now, so many symptoms disappeared eventually making life immeasurable better...

Hi I can totally relate, after a recent spell in hospital the gynocologist recommended washing with Dermol 200 which you can get from a chemist and when the skins split and sore using Diprobase, both over the counter and I swear saved my sanity. Good luck.

Hi
I'm a casual visitor to the site and never posted but I really related to yr post and I've been in that position. 3 yrs back with a lot of family stress and very poorly controlled diabetes, dreadful diet I got thrush. My doc took ages to diagnose and treated for derma conditions first. Only that my routine smear showed some candida did we get on the right track.
I would be awake half the night scratching, I scratched to the point bleeding too and had dreadful gastro issues at well.
Highly recommend to eleviate the immediate distress get a tablet called Fluco...something-or-other. Think in uk it's readily available in supermarket. I had to take two, tho usually One tablet works. Within about wo hours I felt the itch reduce.
Then I took stock and followed a candida detox (Lisa Richards) Learnt a LOT about this little ******, thriving in the sugary environment, multiplying, hiding in a biofilm to avoid our system detecting it. I followed a detailed online programme, took 8-10weeks but there was no rush as the Fluco...wottsit had taken the immediate problem in hand. Learnt to listen to my body (I was quite deaf) lost almost two stone and nailed it.... Best hba1c ever too. All good till this past six months, almost one stone back on, poor diabetic conrol etc and I can't quite motivate myself to get fully on the candida-busting road again. But I will.
Things like going commando at night will help, cotton (white, no irritant from dye) pants, no pantie liners unless needed feminine wash products all good too but when ur that miserable please get the flu... Oh to hell with it I'm using a Google lifeline.... Fluconazole(i think).
I wish u a speedy recovery.

Hi Belles

I totally feel your pain and frustration, even though my blood sugars are low and stable, it's a constant battle to keep things comfortable. You could try a couple of products to restore the balance between good and bad stuff, one is Multi-Gyn ActiGel or Floraplus and Canesfor. Finish the course of the single dose tubes or use the gel for 5 days as directed and you should feel a whole lot better.
Cotton underwear only, no tights or non cotton content leggings/trousers. Don't use any soap/specialist wash just rinse with lukewarm water and wash your underwear in salt as a separate wash and not washing powder/liquid and fabric conditioner.
Hope this helps

Me too ! It’s worked so far . I bath in oilatum and use the bland cream .
I disagree it’s with high bs for me .. I’m under control and suffered all my life with thrush . I was only diagnosed withT2 diabetes two years ago ..
bane of my life having thrush is .. I’m scared to take antibiotics because of it

Hi Belles, when I get thrush I take a fluconazole tablet which sorts it out pretty quickly. Mine is not related to high BS as I'm very well controlled, just one of those things I get now and then. You can buy fluconazole over the counter but I get mine from an online pharmacy, three tablets at a time and much cheaper, so I always have it at the ready. I don't declare my diabetes or they probably wouldn’t let me have it. I used to have it on free repeat prescription from my GP but I get it cheaper than the NHS can so happy to buy my own now. Hope you feel better soon and never have to suffer so long with such a bad attack again.x

This old male is not qualified to offer advice. However you may learn something useful if you google "coconut oil and thrush" and read some of the entries that surface. Virgin Coconut Oil has well proven anti fungal properties. I hope this is of some help and not a waste of your time.

Hello. It is horrible. Couple of hints from Womens Health Physio Isa Herrara. Calendula cream that I find wonderful.Calendula feels a tad warm at first but calms. It is antifungal, anti bacterial and anti viral. Love it.Also a spray bottle of water and spray after your pee and dab.Another hint is Cranberry tabs around 60,000mg. preventive and helpful for healing. Soaking in a bath with a couple of caps of TTree and 1 cup of epsom salts.Hope it heals soon.

Found this thread very interesting. Have suffered from T2D for a number of years and am a post menopausal woman. I suffered from the most horrendous itch down below and was referred to a gynaecologist. I was diagnosed with something called Lichen Sclerosus. For years now, I have been on a regime of washing with Dermol500 (already mentioned) and a strong steroid cream (Dermovate) whenever things flare up. Am checked annually. However, a couple of years ago, I DID have a coincidental bout of thrush when seen and was prescribed Canestan HC (it has a small amount of steroid in it). Sometimes it is difficult for me to know which condition is causing the itch! However, having read that sugar in the urine can be a culprit for thrush, I am going to be a bit more diligent in monitoring my sugar levels (currently treated with glipizide and metformin). Having had a difficult time over the festive season, all of this is making sense.
PS. A message for Belles. If nothing is working, please go back to your GP and ask to be referred to a gynaecologist or dermatologist just in case it is NOT thrush that is causing that horrendous itch

Hi - I too suffer from the itch - always as soon as I fall off the low carb wagon - eg Xmas. My go-to treatment is tea tree oil on a mini tampon, and left in overnight. I'm a bit gungho with the oil - but you must make sure you're not allergic to it or have sensitive skin. I'm fine and it works. Instant relief as well, and after a few days the thrush goes. going back to sensible eating always helps too. Good luck

Hi,
As others have said, good glucose control is helpful.
And fluconazole tablets get the anti-fungal medication where it needs to be, unlike antifungal creams, but there is an interaction between fluconazole and statins so ask GP if you should omit the statin whilst on the fluconazole tablets.
Also, if you are taking an SGLT-2 inhibitor eg empagliflozin, canagliflozin, dapagliflozin, then these increase the risk of genital thrush which is generally easy to clear up but sometimes impossible whilst on the drug, (which is a pity since they are very beneficial drugs)
Best wishes

for a 3 year period I had constant thrush and a recurring boil in my left armpit. I took flucanzole tablets which worked, but as my blood sugar levels were all over the place, I couldn't get rid of it. When I went low carb/keto in August 2016 and my blood sugars normalised, I've not had any further problems.
