Funny I was thinking that the other day, not so much with regards to the direct effect on BG but more about it being a controlled portion - some of those granary type breads can unknowingly absorb more than their fair share of butter/spread. I'll borrow some samplers next cafe' visit :)

I had this today, 2 slices of brown bread, butter and 2 tabs of marmalade, bs at 2.00 before lunch 15.2.

Might have to try marmite instead.

At the moment I have to keep a register of my bg's before meals at different times of the day and i may be starting insulin in a couple of weeks as my bs' aren't what they should be. I am a type 2

Insulin
Approx 13g of carbohydrate, nearly all of which is sugar, in a 20g portion. So, of course it can affect blood sugars. Obviously, effect will be slower if eaten with bread and butter / spread. If eaten alone, can be a useful hypoglycaemia treatment.
